Lo­cals shine in Whit­sun­day Shield comp

GOLFERS from Proser­pine, Bowen, Collinsville and Home Hill com­peted in the lat­est round of the vet­eran golfers Whit­sun­day In­ter­town Shield on Tues­day.

The ladies com­pe­ti­tion was won by Proser­pine golfer Mandy Pat­ter­son with her 35 beat­ing team-mate Caro­line Awdry by one stroke.

Near­est-the-pins for the ladies was Caro­line Awdry on hole 6, Anna Win­ter- bourn on 9 and Bessie Simpson on 13.

Clive Hughes con­tin­ued the strong form of the lo­cals by tak­ing out the men’s comp on 39 ahead of Bowen’s Bob Bell on 37.

For the men the near­est- the-pins were Gary Pop­palardo on hole 2, Kevin Don­ald­son on 10 and Bill Woods on 13.

The shield is de­cided af­ter a num­ber of events are played in all the com­pet­ing towns, with the next event on Septem­ber 17 in Home Hill.

The Proser­pine vet­er­ans wished to thank the cater­ing ladies who vol­un­teered their time to cook and clean and the bar staff at the Proser­pine Golf Club.
