Locals shine in Whitsunday Shield comp
GOLFERS from Proserpine, Bowen, Collinsville and Home Hill competed in the latest round of the veteran golfers Whitsunday Intertown Shield on Tuesday.
The ladies competition was won by Proserpine golfer Mandy Patterson with her 35 beating team-mate Caroline Awdry by one stroke.
Nearest-the-pins for the ladies was Caroline Awdry on hole 6, Anna Winter- bourn on 9 and Bessie Simpson on 13.
Clive Hughes continued the strong form of the locals by taking out the men’s comp on 39 ahead of Bowen’s Bob Bell on 37.
For the men the nearest- the-pins were Gary Poppalardo on hole 2, Kevin Donaldson on 10 and Bill Woods on 13.
The shield is decided after a number of events are played in all the competing towns, with the next event on September 17 in Home Hill.
The Proserpine veterans wished to thank the catering ladies who volunteered their time to cook and clean and the bar staff at the Proserpine Golf Club.
