Pairs champion crowned on weekend
ON WEDNESDAY the final of the club championship pairs was played and Lois Read and Dot Hinschen defeated Jo Peasley and Joan McGrath 21-14.
The final of the B singles was also played and Amy Hart defeated Dell McCormack 25-22.
This week the final of the club championship triples will be played with Margaret Russell, June Blair and Dot Hinschen taking on Heather Patullo, Pam Selmes and Gail Camm.
In social bowls on Wednesday Betty Evans (visitor from Coonabarabran), John Simpson (visitor from Warrick) and Joy Jeffries defeated Fran Porter, Arthur Williams and Maree Daffara 18-17.
Annette Patullo and Pepper Evans (visitor from Coonabarabran) defeated Noelie Dibben and Barbara Dammash 36-17.
On Thursday, the Friendship Shield was played at St Helens with the home side retaining the shield winning 66-52.
Maree Daffara’s team was defeated 22-26, Joan McGrath’s team lost 13-21 and Dot Hinschen’s team was beaten 17-19.
Consistency singles games will be coming up and the Whitsunday Carnival is being played next week.
Saturday saw the club championship pairs played.
In the morning, both games were much closer than the scores would suggest with Shane Spann (sub for Michael Kinnear) and Grahame Kinnear defeating Dean Lovelock and Shane Kinnear 31-8 and Ben Cutrone and Scott Kinnear beating Nathan Dodds and Scott Hamilton 28-7. The finals were played in the afternoon and Spann and Kinnear were able to beat Cutrone and Kinnear 22-18.
On Sunday, there was a mixed pairs game and Joan McGrath and Shane Spann defeated Janet Mortimer and Kevin Thorogood 2511.
In social bowls on Sunday, Velia Stewart (visitor from Bundaberg), Jo Peasley and Barry Zillmann defeated Jeanette Calway, Pam Selmes and Grahame Stewart (visitor from Bundaberg) 20-16.
Trudy Hanne, Manfred Krug (visitor from Finlay), Arthur Williams and Maree Daffara defeated Fran Porter, John Henderson, Philip Brown and Joy Jeffries 17-14.
Competition for this Saturday begins at 1.30pm with the B singles semi-final between Arthur Wil- liams and Matt Camm (marker John Henderson) and the mixed singles between Wayne Handley and Dale Haack (marker Shane Spann) and Dean Lovelock and Maree Daffara (marker Philip Brown).
Sunday is Patron’s Day at the club and they hope that everyone will come along to support Brian Cooke on this day.
Mr Cooke was a long time member of the club. He made many value contributions to the club and its members throughout his time as a member.
