Water is branded for Airlie Beach

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

LOCAL residents and visitors to the Whitsundays will now be able to drink from a water bottle specifically branded for Airlie Beach.

The 600ml water bottles, already available from a variety of retailers and some cruise operators, have been labelled with the ‘Airlie Beach, Heart of the Reef’ brand, pioneered by the local branch of international tourism organisation Skal. Skal Whitsunday secretary Carolyn Upton said members had been talking about the possibility of giving out water at the Whitsunday Coast Airport as part of a welcome similar to the Cruise Ship Ambassador Program.

“And from that, we thought, why not brand it,” she said.

So Skal Whitsunday vice president Mark Bell approached Proserpinebased Archers Soft Drinks director Michael Horsford to discuss the idea.

Mr Horsford and his brother Allan owned the Whitsunday Natural Springs brand, which has been sold locally for 27 years. The water is bottled in Proserpine and sourced from a natural underground spring on Anzac Road.

Mr Horsford agreed to re-label the product.

“It’s promoting Airlie Beach and the Whitsun- days – that’s what it’s all about – working together as a team and if everyone works together, this place will grow,” Mr Horsford said.

Mr Bell said this would help develop the Heart of the Reef campaign.

“And the bigger picture to this is Michael has agreed to give us four cents for every bottle sold so this goes back to the campaign,” he said.

For the next six months, the water bottles will also carry a special promotion, with four, one-week Whitsunday holidays valued at $2500 each, up for grabs. To enter, buy a Heart of the Reef bottle of water and visit www.heartofthereef.com.
