“And I have to say, it’s been particularly special on this occasion to be welcomed (to the region) by a woman as mayor,” Ms Wensley said.

Ms Wesley was one of several keynote speakers selected by ALGWA state president and Whitsunday Regional Councillor Jan Clifford to address the two-day conference.

Cr Clifford said she was especially proud that the Governor of Queensland had agreed to attend.

“I asked the Governor when we first got the confe- rence two years ago.

“She said she’d do her best and she really has and I’m very grateful to her,” she said.
