IT is with great admiration that I compose this letter to thank those who assisted in managing the unexpected fire on board vessel Arawe at Port of Airlie, on Tuesday, July 23.
On behalf of the Port of Airlie team I would like to thank the local fire brigade, ambulance service, police and Maritime Safety Queensland who managed the situation professionally and efficiently. I would like to thank the team, Jodi and Wayne, who immediately sprang into action with our emergency plan. The tradesmen from Dick Rowe Marine who assisted us on the water, which was greatly appreciated, as was the efforts of Richard Barrett and his team from Abell Point Marina. A fine example of industry working together, thank you.
Our Outrigger staff, specifically Dan Jones, as well as the members of the Whitsunday Sailing Club and the general public who did whatever they could to assist with the situation, your efforts were greatly appreciated.
Finally, Libby Edge and her Eco Barge team, as always, did a sterling job clearing up the mess, thank you.
The professionalism from all involved was second to none, a sincere thank you to all. Andrew Forster General Manager, Port of Airlie
