Cannonvale fete a great show
MORE than $10,000 was raised by community members who attended the Cannonvale State School fete on Saturday.
Hundreds of families braved the wet weather to have some wholehearted fun for the school’s biggest fundraising event of the year.
Kids went wild, running from the ripper dipper slide to the jumping castle and gladiator arena before checking out the range of goodies on show at over 40 stalls.
P&C president Sonja Zadebernyj said the event was a wonderful, fun-filled day enjoyed by many families.
“The highlight for me was definitely at 6am when I saw lots of smiling, helpful faces eagerly waiting to help set up the fete,” she said.
“The student contribution was fantastic throughout the event with beautiful performances by the school choir, concert band and rock band.”
Some of the many highlights of the day included the high energy dancing session hosted by Zumba Fitness Whitsundays, solo performance by local musician John Garland and the Jay Jays fashion parade featuring year 6-7 students.
The Whitsunday Fire Brigade also opened up their truck for kids to explore before fire fighters Jack Price and Nick Barlow turned on the sirens and climbed on the roof, throwing handfuls of sweets to the excited crowd.
Ms Zadebernyj said there were 60 raffles on the day, with the most successful raffle being the giant chocolate wheel donated by the Reef Gateway.
School principal Angela Kelly said the fete committee had done a fantastic job.
“The entertainment has been first class, food has been excellent and the range of activities for kids is really impressive,” she said.
Ms Zadebernyj said all funds raised on the day will be going towards purchasing more resources for students.
