Teens ready for disco

Whitsunday Times - - LOCAL NEWS -

COSTUMES are coming out of the cupboard as teens prepare for the Whitsunday PCYC’s biggest superhero dance party of the year at the Uniting Church Hall in Proserpine this Friday night.

The fun will begin at 6.30pm, with DJ Justin Night Gray hitting the decks with all the latest hits under the disco lights.

Partygoers can show some of their dance moves in the dance-off competition or test their knowledge in the trivia quiz with major prizes to be won.

Whitsunday PCYC staff will also be on the look-out for the best dressed superhero or villain to win a prize sponsored by the Proserpine Pharmacy.

Projects and programs co-ordinator Grainne Newell said it was important for the local community to support events for teenagers in the Whitsundays.

“Events like the Proserpine Dance Party are important to help with youth development and crime prevention because if they are at our disco they are off the streets,” she said.

“This is the second event we have held and we really need numbers for this one to ensure it becomes a permanent fixture.”

There will be a $1 sausage sizzle sponsored by IGA supermarket with cold drinks and canteen snacks also available for purchase.

The free event was organised by the Whitsunday Youth Committee’s Y Factor group and is aimed at 12-17 year-olds.

Ms Newell said it wasn’t compulsory to dress-up and welcomed all to attend.
