Time to enter

Whitsunday Times - - ON THE WATER -

WHEN the Whitsunday Sailing Club (WSC) tallies the entries for the 2013 Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week, more than 100 boats are expected to be on the list.

WSC sailing development manager Tim Parker said he was a little disappointed the numbers were down slightly from this point last year.

“But with the economy the way it is and with uncertainty over the election process and date, I am actually not surprised,” he said.

However, Mr Parker said he was still hopeful of at least matching last year’s numbers.

This year the stron- gest division is a toss-up between the cruising fleet versus the multihull national championship competitors. Both are showing strong entry numbers so the competition will be on to see which division can outdo the other.

On the water the volunteer team will be led by international race officer Ross Chisholm. Working alongside Chisholm will be Ross Wilson, Kevin Wilson and protest committee chair Mark Gallagher.

“The calibre of the team is just brilliant,” Mr Parker said.
