THE fi­nal of the club cham­pi­onship triples was played last Wed­nes­day.

Bar­bara Dam­mash (sub for Mar­garet Rus­sell), June Blair and Dot Hin­schen de­feated Noelie Dibben, Pam Selmes and Gail Camm 27-10.

In so­cial play Ma­ree Daf­fara played Janet Mortimer in a game of sin­gles. This was in prepa­ra­tion for Mortimer con­test­ing the novice sin­gles at dis­trict level. Trudy Hanne, Man­fred Krug and Joy Jef­fries de­feated Dell McCor­mack, Cathy Holmes, Pep­per Evans and Flo O’Han­lon 25-17 and Betty Evans and Heather Brown (joined af­ter smoko by Janet Mortimer) de­feated Lois Read and Heather Pat­ullo (joined by Ma­ree Daf­fara af­ter smoko) 23-15.

The Whit­sun­day car­ni­val was held on Mon­day and 12 teams com­peted this year.

There was a tie for first place on game wins and mar­gins so it went down to a count­back on ends won.

The win­ners were He­lena Mil­tenburg, Helen Hoog­w­erf, Peg Bamp­ton and Jan Borg from Seaforth with 2 wins and 24 ends. Sec­ond place went to Joan McGrath, Flo O’Han­lon, Cathy Holmes and Betty Evans with 2 wins plus 22 ends.

The Sa­rina team, con­sist­ing of Coral Brad­ford, Chris Smith, Penny Roots and BB Smith came third with one and a half wins plus 3.

The sports­men award this year was given to the Air­lie Beach team of Noela White­head, Dale Hell, Jill Spencer and Mae Se­comb.

There were lots of raf­fle and lucky door prizes, and the club thanked ev­ery­one who con­trib­uted to mak­ing the day such a suc­cess.

On Satur­day, the sec­ond semi-fi­nal of the B sin­gles was played and Arthur Wil­liams de­feated Matthew Camm 25-19 in a high qual­ity match.

On Sun­day, 21 play­ers at­tended Brian Cooke’s pa­trons day and had a won­der­ful af­ter­noon of bowls. The win­ners were Lois Read and Barry Zill­mann who de­feated John Hen­der­son and Ma­ree Daf­fara 20-17.

Run­ners up were Beni Wal­ters (vis­i­tor from Wing­ham), Man­fred Krug (vis­i­tor from Fin­lay) and Dot Hin­schen who de­feated Brian Cooke, Trudy Hanne, Heather Brown and Kevin Thoro­good 27-22. Sports­mens went to Sini Wal­ters (vis­i­tor from Wing­ham), John Dam­mash and Rob Tay­lor who lost to Dar­rell Pat­ullo, Heather Pat­ullo and Bar­bara Dam­mash 17-22.

In other games Philip Brown and Gail Camm de­feated David Phillips (vis­i­tor from Yep­poon) and Joy Jef­fries 21-9. Thanks to Brian Cooke for putting on this day each year.

The fours team, con­sist­ing of Ben Cutrone, Brian Pearce, Scott Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia are wished the best of luck when they com­pete in the cham­pion of cham­pion 4’s at RSL this week­end. There will be no com­pe­ti­tions called this week­end, how­ever mixed so­cial bowls will be played on Sun­day af­ter­noon.

FAM­ILY AF­FAIR: Ladies pres­i­dent of Proser­pine Bowls Ma­ree Def­fara, her fa­ther Brian Cooke who is the club pa­tron, and Fay­lene and David Cooke, had fun at so­cial bowls for Pa­tron’s Day on Sun­day.
