THE final of the club championship triples was played last Wednesday.
Barbara Dammash (sub for Margaret Russell), June Blair and Dot Hinschen defeated Noelie Dibben, Pam Selmes and Gail Camm 27-10.
In social play Maree Daffara played Janet Mortimer in a game of singles. This was in preparation for Mortimer contesting the novice singles at district level. Trudy Hanne, Manfred Krug and Joy Jeffries defeated Dell McCormack, Cathy Holmes, Pepper Evans and Flo O’Hanlon 25-17 and Betty Evans and Heather Brown (joined after smoko by Janet Mortimer) defeated Lois Read and Heather Patullo (joined by Maree Daffara after smoko) 23-15.
The Whitsunday carnival was held on Monday and 12 teams competed this year.
There was a tie for first place on game wins and margins so it went down to a countback on ends won.
The winners were Helena Miltenburg, Helen Hoogwerf, Peg Bampton and Jan Borg from Seaforth with 2 wins and 24 ends. Second place went to Joan McGrath, Flo O’Hanlon, Cathy Holmes and Betty Evans with 2 wins plus 22 ends.
The Sarina team, consisting of Coral Bradford, Chris Smith, Penny Roots and BB Smith came third with one and a half wins plus 3.
The sportsmen award this year was given to the Airlie Beach team of Noela Whitehead, Dale Hell, Jill Spencer and Mae Secomb.
There were lots of raffle and lucky door prizes, and the club thanked everyone who contributed to making the day such a success.
On Saturday, the second semi-final of the B singles was played and Arthur Williams defeated Matthew Camm 25-19 in a high quality match.
On Sunday, 21 players attended Brian Cooke’s patrons day and had a wonderful afternoon of bowls. The winners were Lois Read and Barry Zillmann who defeated John Henderson and Maree Daffara 20-17.
Runners up were Beni Walters (visitor from Wingham), Manfred Krug (visitor from Finlay) and Dot Hinschen who defeated Brian Cooke, Trudy Hanne, Heather Brown and Kevin Thorogood 27-22. Sportsmens went to Sini Walters (visitor from Wingham), John Dammash and Rob Taylor who lost to Darrell Patullo, Heather Patullo and Barbara Dammash 17-22.
In other games Philip Brown and Gail Camm defeated David Phillips (visitor from Yeppoon) and Joy Jeffries 21-9. Thanks to Brian Cooke for putting on this day each year.
The fours team, consisting of Ben Cutrone, Brian Pearce, Scott Kinnear and Barry Saroglia are wished the best of luck when they compete in the champion of champion 4’s at RSL this weekend. There will be no competitions called this weekend, however mixed social bowls will be played on Sunday afternoon.
FAMILY AFFAIR: Ladies president of Proserpine Bowls Maree Deffara, her father Brian Cooke who is the club patron, and Faylene and David Cooke, had fun at social bowls for Patron’s Day on Sunday.
