Raiders miss out
RUGBY UNION A GRADE
A MISSED penalty on full time cost the ProserpineWhitsunday Raiders a win over the Kuttabul Camelboks on Saturday with the reigning premiers hanging tough for a 17-15 win.
The heartbreaking loss was a reversal of fortunes for the Raiders who sunk the Camelboks earlier this season.
Tries to Tai Roberts and Santiago Dominguez helped the Raiders hold a narrow lead over the competition favourites and for large periods the Raiders looked the better of the two teams.
Kuttabul showed their determination and hit back with three tries of their own and hung on by two points after Martin Roveda’s last-ditch penalty kick just missed.
In the reserves fiveeighth Jo Tuhakaraina showed his skills to score the Raiders first points early in the game but high scores would not be the order of the day.
After almost an hour the Kuttabul reserves scored their first points and their converted try reduced the gap to just one point.
The last time the two teams met at the sports park the Raiders won with a try on fulltime but on this the visitors nailed a penalty kick in the dying minutes from 40 metres out to snatch a 10-8 win. sThe A grade team has a bye this weekend while the reserves will play in front of a big crowd on Saturday when they play at the sports park at 6pm following the Cutters game.
