Police run to dam to raise funds
RACQ-CQ Rescue Helicopter and the family of a local boy Tom Maloney, who is currently in Brisbane receiving treatment for Lymphoma, will be the beneficiaries of this year’s annual Proserpine Police Dam Run.
The 23km fundraising event from Proserpine to the Peter Faust Dam will be held this Saturday.
The run will start from the Proserpine Junior Sports Complex car park on Crystalbrook Road at 7am.
Constable Steve Ringlestein said the fundraising run aimed to raise funds for those who needed it most.
“Tom Maloney is a student at Proserpine State School and when we heard about his situation we wanted to help raise funds to aid his recovery in anyway possible,” he said.
A crowd of 40 people attended last year’s event which raised more than $2000 for RACQ-CQ Rescue and the Pol- ice Legacy charity. Mr Ringlestein said everyone who registered for the event would go in the draw to win some great prizes donated by local businesses.
“We are asking for a $10 donation for people to take part in the run or walk and we will be supplying free water bottles during the event and a sausage sizzle at the dam afterwards,” he said.
A bus service will also be available to transport community members from the dam to Proserpine.
Mr Ringlestein said registrations were open and he hoped to have more people taking part on the day.
People can also make personal donations at the station.
Registration for the event can be done in advance at the Proserpine Police Station between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday or by email to Ringlestein.StevenM@police.qld.gov.au.
