Spirited battles in twilight race
WITH anticipation for Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week building, 20 boats ventured out in beautiful conditions for last week’s Whitsunday Sailing Club twilight race.
Former local sailor Jason Guard returned to town with his multihull Spirit and led the fleet around the course to win line honours and corrected time in Division 1. Quickskips (Peter Millar) and Wild Thing (Keith Roberts) were not far behind.
Tulip (Bernie van’t Hof), led Division 2, but at the end of the day it was Esoteric (Col Forster), that won on corrected time. Following behind were Twister (Kevin Fogarty) and Reignition (Charles Wallis).
Kameruka, skippered by Mark and Bob Beale, enjoyed a brilliant start in Division 3 leading the fleet around the whole course. Also in this division were Breakaway (Rob Davis), Synchronicity (Tom Parker) and Lorna Rose Too (Pete Mitchelson).
At the end of the race Pacific Phoenix (Allan Sneddon), got ahead of the fleet at the finish to win line hours and corrected time.
Breakaway ended up in second place with Kameruka in third.
