Spir­ited bat­tles in twi­light race

WITH an­tic­i­pa­tion for Abell Point Ma­rina Air­lie Beach Race Week build­ing, 20 boats ven­tured out in beau­ti­ful con­di­tions for last week’s Whit­sun­day Sail­ing Club twi­light race.

For­mer lo­cal sailor Ja­son Guard re­turned to town with his mul­ti­hull Spirit and led the fleet around the course to win line hon­ours and cor­rected time in Di­vi­sion 1. Quick­skips (Peter Mil­lar) and Wild Thing (Keith Roberts) were not far be­hind.

Tulip (Bernie van’t Hof), led Di­vi­sion 2, but at the end of the day it was Es­o­teric (Col Forster), that won on cor­rected time. Fol­low­ing be­hind were Twister (Kevin Fog­a­rty) and Reig­ni­tion (Charles Wal­lis).

Kameruka, skip­pered by Mark and Bob Beale, en­joyed a bril­liant start in Di­vi­sion 3 lead­ing the fleet around the whole course. Also in this di­vi­sion were Break­away (Rob Davis), Syn­chronic­ity (Tom Parker) and Lorna Rose Too (Pete Mitchel­son).

At the end of the race Pa­cific Phoenix (Al­lan Sned­don), got ahead of the fleet at the fin­ish to win line hours and cor­rected time.

Break­away ended up in sec­ond place with Kameruka in third.
