Bowen score grinding win over Raiders

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

A HEALTHY crowd hung around after the Mackay Cutters game on Saturday as the Proserpine-Whitsunday Raiders reserves fell to Bowen 14-5

The Mudcrabs posted early points and were able to hold onto their advantage throughout the whole game.

Bowen dominated in the forward pack by securing good ball and playing over the advantage line at every opportunity.

Former Wallabies prop Rodney Blake starred for the Bowen side and his experience and presence caused plenty of pain for the Raiders.

Raiders outside centre Marc Kellett scored in the 12th minute but Bowen hit back and scored under the posts through their forwards for an easy conversion to lead 14-5.

No further points were scored throughout the match as the Raid- ers continued to squander scoring opportunities.

The pack was led by the courageous Sean Condon as captain but there was a lack of senior leadership on the field and the Raiders reserves must find their direction.

Dom Kermac on the side of the scrum was a standout performer and improving greatly and forward James Smith gave his all until his knee just couldn’t last any longer.

In the backs Justin Chengody and Dom Croker combined well but there was trouble in the breakdown that made it hard for the half to clear constant ball.

Both the reserves and A grade teams take on the Mackay City Redskins this Saturday afternoon at the Whitsunday Sports Park with kick off at 4pm and 5.30pm respectively.

All are welcome to bid farewell to the Raiders in their last home game before their upcoming finals run.
