Sea Eagles honour Bloods with big win

FANS at the Whitsunday Sports Park had plenty to cheer about on Sunday as the Whitsunday Sea Eagles recorded an upset win over the competition leading Eastern Swans.
The team ran out in replica jerseys celebrating the 20th anniversary of the 1993 double premiership winning Bloods team and the current crop did the jersey proud in the 9.12.668.10.58 win.
Saturday’s win was a great way to cap off the Bloods reunion as the Sea Eagles showed true character to hang on for a hard-fought win.
Ashley Wensley lead the way with three goals and Daniel Fletcher bagged two as the team rallied to ensure Robert Whitton’s 100th game for the Sea Eagles was one to remember.
The Eastern Swans were too good for the Sea Eagles reserves on Saturday, scoring a 12.12.84-6.3.39 win.
After a close first quarter the Sea Eagles were trailing were by 28 at the main break.
Although the game was never in doubt after half time the Sea Eagles did mange to win the last quarter with three impressive goals giving the crowd something to cheer about.
Best players for the reserves were Ben Minster, Callum Erickson, Jarod Quarrell, Chris Leeson and David Nixon.
The reserves play the North Mackay Saints at Magpies Sports Park on Saturday and the seniors are up against the Magpies at the same ground later in the day.
