Sea Ea­gles hon­our Bloods with big win

FANS at the Whit­sun­day Sports Park had plenty to cheer about on Sun­day as the Whit­sun­day Sea Ea­gles recorded an up­set win over the com­pe­ti­tion lead­ing Eastern Swans.

The team ran out in replica jer­seys cel­e­brat­ing the 20th an­niver­sary of the 1993 dou­ble premier­ship win­ning Bloods team and the cur­rent crop did the jersey proud in the 9.12.668.10.58 win.

Satur­day’s win was a great way to cap off the Bloods re­union as the Sea Ea­gles showed true char­ac­ter to hang on for a hard-fought win.

Ash­ley Wens­ley lead the way with three goals and Daniel Fletcher bagged two as the team ral­lied to en­sure Robert Whit­ton’s 100th game for the Sea Ea­gles was one to re­mem­ber.


The Eastern Swans were too good for the Sea Ea­gles re­serves on Satur­day, scor­ing a 12.12.84-6.3.39 win.

Af­ter a close first quar­ter the Sea Ea­gles were trail­ing were by 28 at the main break.

Al­though the game was never in doubt af­ter half time the Sea Ea­gles did mange to win the last quar­ter with three im­pres­sive goals giv­ing the crowd some­thing to cheer about.

Best play­ers for the re­serves were Ben Min­ster, Cal­lum Erick­son, Jarod Quar­rell, Chris Lee­son and David Nixon.

The re­serves play the North Mackay Saints at Mag­pies Sports Park on Satur­day and the se­niors are up against the Mag­pies at the same ground later in the day.
