Fertiliser application business good news for cane farmers
FOURTH generation cane farmer Danny Atkinson has launched a new fertiliser application business to help cane farmers across the region during this year’s harvest.
Mr Atkinson said the new five tonne stool splitter was purpose built for granular fertiliser application and grub control and had performed extremely well since the start of the season in July.
“The business is open to all cane farmers but we also have a great arrangement with Ravensdown Fertiliser Australia that will make the ordering, application and payments of fertiliser for their shareholders completely hassle free,” he said.
Ravensdown Fertiliser Australia account manager of Mackay/ Proserpine, Wayne Berginey, said Mr Atkinson was the perfect fit for the new business.
“Knowing the sugar industry and knowing the necessity of good timing and efficiency when it comes to fertiliser application and grub control can mean the difference between being good at your job or being one of the best,” he said.
“For our shareholders there is an added bonus that when they order their fertiliser we can book Danny and his equipment at the same time.”
The new five-tonne stool splitter applicator was manufactured by Rinaudo Engineering and delivered to the Foxdale property last month.
The stool splitter is strong, self- loading and efficient with a variable width application, variable rate and a grub control applicator.
Mr Berginey said all cane farmers knew the importance of utilising up-to-the minute technology to ensure economical, efficient and accurate application of fertiliser.
Danny Deguara from GPS Solutions also supplied guidance and control equipment for the unit to provide proof of mapping to assure accurate application in line with Best Management Practise (BPM) requirements. Mr Atkinson’s wife Karlee will also be joining the business handling bookings, accounts and administration.
