$330k boost for tourism
THE State Government has given a $330,000 funding boost to Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) as part of the Regional Tourism Organisations (RTO) contestable funding scheme.
Chief Executive Officer Danial Rochford said WMDL had successfully applied for three major projects aimed at boosting tourist expenditure in the region.
“The contestable funding offered by the Government sees our local industry, Whitsunday Regional Council and ourselves put up funding that is matched dollar for dollar to deliver tourism marketing projects that will contribute towards the Government’s 2020 tourism goals,” Mr Rochford said.
“We have been successful in gaining funding for a comprehensive campaign to relaunch Airlie Beach following the main street upgrade, an interstate Whitsundays Winter sale marketing campaign for 2014 and a multi-faceted campaign for Weddings in the Whitsundays,” he said.
Across the state, 22 projects were approved sharing almost $3m in funding.
