$330k boost for tourism

THE State Govern­ment has given a $330,000 fund­ing boost to Whit­sun­days Mar­ket­ing and De­vel­op­ment Limited (WMDL) as part of the Re­gional Tourism Or­gan­i­sa­tions (RTO) con­testable fund­ing scheme.

Chief Ex­ec­u­tive Of­fi­cer Da­nial Rochford said WMDL had suc­cess­fully ap­plied for three ma­jor projects aimed at boost­ing tourist ex­pen­di­ture in the re­gion.

“The con­testable fund­ing of­fered by the Govern­ment sees our lo­cal in­dus­try, Whit­sun­day Re­gional Coun­cil and our­selves put up fund­ing that is matched dol­lar for dol­lar to de­liver tourism mar­ket­ing projects that will con­trib­ute to­wards the Govern­ment’s 2020 tourism goals,” Mr Rochford said.

“We have been suc­cess­ful in gain­ing fund­ing for a com­pre­hen­sive cam­paign to re­launch Air­lie Beach fol­low­ing the main street up­grade, an in­ter­state Whit­sun­days Win­ter sale mar­ket­ing cam­paign for 2014 and a multi-faceted cam­paign for Wed­dings in the Whit­sun­days,” he said.

Across the state, 22 projects were ap­proved shar­ing al­most $3m in fund­ing.
