Tune up at twilight

Whitsunday Times - - ON THE WATER -

LOCAL sailors had one final chance to tune up for Race Week in last Wednesday’s Whitsunday Sailing Club (WSC) twilight race.

WSC sailing development officer Tim Parker said while winds were very light, the race did give those competing a chance to practice in the type of conditions that followed through into Race Week.

“Little did they realise what good practice it would be,” he said.

A total of 21 boats hit the start line consisting of five multihulls in Division 1 and eight boats in each of the Divisions 2 and 3.

Spirit, skippered by Jason Gard, won Division 1 on both line honours and corrected time.

Tulip, skippered by Bernie Van’t Hof was the winner in Division 2 and Synchronicity, skippered by Tom Parker, took out line honours and handicap wins in Division 3.

All competitors sailed a short course due to the light winds, which was shortened further during the race.

The weekly twilight races will resume as normal after race week finishes this Friday.
