Bowlers flock to Airlie’s green
AIRLIE ladies welcomed some visitors on Tuesday when they played triples in social bowls.
They were Jill and John Saunders and Leon Wilson Oroner from down south.
The men’s social games played on Wednesday just about filled all the rinks.
The winners on the day were David Stock and Leigh Williamson who defeated Dom Sposato and Leon Wilson 22-18, Col Howes, Doug Murphy and Herb Secomb defeated Howard Moulang, Ken McCalister and Jack Dobbins 22-15 and John Fornasiero, Nik Fernbach and Jeff Newman drew with Peter Lawton, Ron Spence, Jim Cairns and Kevin Halley 22 all.
On the next rink Ken Ryder, Geoff Hoare and John Keam defeated Steve Tattam, Ted Evans and David Tindall 33-12 and on the last rink Ron Ordner, Manfred Krug and Wally Gray defeated Eric Bottle, Keith Beetham and Brian Arnold 24-22.
Another round of visitors joined the bowlers, including Leon Wilson, Ron Ordner, John Keam, Brian Arnold, Manfred Krug, Dave Tindall and Kevin Haley all holidaying in the Whitsundays.
Business House Bowls on Wednesday night was won by Whitsunday Transit on 13 points. Second was Charter Yacht Australia with 12.
Leading the field is Charter Yacht Whitsunday with 67 points followed by Porters with 63 and then third Whitsunday Transit with 59.
As the cover was having running repairs on Sunday social bowls was played on Saturday afternoon with a wonderful roll up of visitors and regulars.
The winners were Kevin Jewell, David Stock and Herb Secomb who defeated Ron Ordner, Lindern Mallesch and Ron Spence 17-7 followed by Ken Ryder, Raff Ritale and Leigh Williamson who defeated Eric Bottle, Mae Secomb and Jo Howes 15-9.
On the next rink Carol Ritale, Howard Moulang and Ken McCalister defeated Shirley Williamson, Steve Tattam and Wally Gray 15-9 and on the next rink Peter Lawton and Brian Arnold played pairs with Jill Spencer and Dom Sposato 14-10. Paul Phillips, Nick Fernbach and Leigh Williamson defeated Col Howes, Glenys Perkins and Gwenda Arnold 13-12.
More visitors arrived and played on Saturday and they were welcomed to the club by all members. Coming up on September 14 is the club’s supper dance from 7pm with everyone welcome.
