Mixed re­sults at Proser­pine ten­nis

THURS­DAY night ten­nis in Proser­pine pro­duced some great matches last week across all the courts.

Gavin Milne’s team played Lay­ton Mitchell’s and de­spite hold­ing a 28-27 lead at the halfway mark Milne’s team were just beaten 55-54.

There was some very close matches be­tween the teams and it was a great game.

Lay­ton Mitchell’s team all played while Gavin Milne’s team had two sub­sti­tutes play­ing, in­clud­ing Sandy Botes who subbed for Cameron Ben­nett and Christopher Harvey who subbed for Keith Fork­nall.

It was mas­ter ver­sus ap­pren­tice with Mick Sun­der­land win­ning his four sets on the night against the younger Aaron Re­gan.

Glen Botes’ team and Howard Lawn’s team also played how­ever their game was not as close.

At half time Lawn’s team led com­fort­ably and they held their ad­van­tage to grab a 70-27 win.

Lawn’s team al­most had a per­fect score get­ting 70 out of a pos­si­ble 72 games for the night and the only dropped set came when Gary Scot­ford and Brad Skaife had a win over Wayne McHugh and Sam Cor­nish 6-4.

Tr­ish Cor­nish subbed for An­drew Mau on Glen Botes’ team, the first time she had played fix­tures on a Thurs­day night.

Sam Cor­nish subbed for Chris Brett and Mitchell Cas­sells subbed for Adam Skaife on Lawn’s team.

Af­ter two weeks Lawn’s team leads the com­pe­ti­tion with an aver­age of 67 games over Milne’s on 53, Mitchell’s on 51.5 and Botes’ team on 46.

This Thurs­day Milne’s team will be play­ing against Lawn’s and Botes’ crew are play­ing against Mitchell’s team.

The bye lines this week are 1 and 5.
