Mixed results at Proserpine tennis
THURSDAY night tennis in Proserpine produced some great matches last week across all the courts.
Gavin Milne’s team played Layton Mitchell’s and despite holding a 28-27 lead at the halfway mark Milne’s team were just beaten 55-54.
There was some very close matches between the teams and it was a great game.
Layton Mitchell’s team all played while Gavin Milne’s team had two substitutes playing, including Sandy Botes who subbed for Cameron Bennett and Christopher Harvey who subbed for Keith Forknall.
It was master versus apprentice with Mick Sunderland winning his four sets on the night against the younger Aaron Regan.
Glen Botes’ team and Howard Lawn’s team also played however their game was not as close.
At half time Lawn’s team led comfortably and they held their advantage to grab a 70-27 win.
Lawn’s team almost had a perfect score getting 70 out of a possible 72 games for the night and the only dropped set came when Gary Scotford and Brad Skaife had a win over Wayne McHugh and Sam Cornish 6-4.
Trish Cornish subbed for Andrew Mau on Glen Botes’ team, the first time she had played fixtures on a Thursday night.
Sam Cornish subbed for Chris Brett and Mitchell Cassells subbed for Adam Skaife on Lawn’s team.
After two weeks Lawn’s team leads the competition with an average of 67 games over Milne’s on 53, Mitchell’s on 51.5 and Botes’ team on 46.
This Thursday Milne’s team will be playing against Lawn’s and Botes’ crew are playing against Mitchell’s team.
