A romantic end to week

Whitsunday Times - - ON THE WATER -

SEVERAL hundred people at the Airlie Beach Race Week presentations on Friday night witnessed a public marriage proposal between two members of the sailling community.

Dan White, who co-owns local boat Riff Raff, asked for the microphone and proposed to crew member and partner Nikki Abbott.

An emotional Nikki accepted the proposal in front of everyone. She said this week that it was a real surprise, as Dan did not usually like public speaking. “It was just so out of character,” she said. The couple met while living in the Whitsundays and have been together for about four and a half years.

Although Nickki was never involved with sailing prior to meeting Dan, she has now become a keen yachtie and is a regular crew member and skipper on Riff Raff. The proposal was a great end to the week, where Riff Raff was the only local boat to win their division in race week and also won the best dressed boat in the Great Whitsunday Fun Race on Saturday.
