Great turn out for Fun Race
THE 52ft yacht Frantic was the overall winner in Saturday’s Great Whitsunday Fun Race which attracted about 80 boats.
Serious racers and casual cruisers all took part in this fun filled afternoon with boats in 10 different divisions all decked out in fancy dress to enjoy the glorious weather.
Frantic was skippered by Melbourne-based skipper John Woodruff who guided a large crew of friends and family home first.
The best-dressed prize went to local boat Riff Raff with all its crew decked out in cowboy theme, including mock horses and cows.
It was a big week for Riff Raff as they were the only local boat to come first place in their division in the annual Airlie Beach Race Week which finished on Friday.
In Saturday’s fun race, the award for best-dressed crew went to the pirates from local boat Twister.
New Romancer from Barcelona won the award for the travelling the furthest to take part.
In division 1B, Condor finished first, in 2A Thylacine took the honours and in 2B Treasure 8 was the first home.
Boats under 30ft competed in division 3 with Run, Run, Run from Melbourne winning 3A and the Paul Mitchell-skippered Here's Trouble winning 3B.
Wild Thing won the non-spinnaker multihull division while Malice from Port Douglas won the multihulls with spinnakers.
The tall ship division was taken out by Kamala from Russell Island and the smallest boat award was the Greg Hammon skippered Quantum Leap.

PIRATES ON THE HIGH SEAS: Bourke McCarron and Roslyn Booth had fun on Joshua C during the Great Whitsunday Fun Race.
WILD WEST: The cowboys and indians onboard Riff Raff took out the prize for the best dressed crew in the 2013 fun race.
SEEING RED: Wild Thing's crew were all decked out in red as they sailed in Pioneer Bay on Saturday with more than 80 other boats.
FUN IN THE SUN: The crew of British Defender had a great time out on the water during the 36th annual Great Whitsunday Fun Race.
