Whit­sun­day lo­cals shine at ju­nior open

THE Proser­pine Ju­nior Open was held on the week­end with 75 kids from around North Queens­land com­pet­ing in 3, 6, 9 or 18-hole com­pe­ti­tions.

The over­all open cham­pi­ons were vis­i­tors Justin Mor­ley and Ni­cola Wil­liams.

On the lo­cal scene, in the 3-hole comp, lo­cals Levi Holmes and Tif­fani Youd both com­peted in their first tour­na­ments and Levi picked up gross win­ner with a score of 19 and Tif­fani picked up nett run­ner-up with a nett of 8.

In the 6-hole comp, Jesse Gat­ton and Hamish Adam showed that their golf is com­ing along with Jesse win­ning nett win­ner and Hamish get­ting nett run­ner-up.

The 6-hole girls play­ers, Trin­ity Youd and Monique Mur­phy, both showed great im­prove­ment, shoot- ing in the low 50s and not far be­hind the win­ners. The 9-hole boys di­vi­sion 2 saw Liam Pirlo and Jack An­der­son fight­ing it out for nett win­ner and run­ner-up with Liam beat­ing Jack by just 1 shot.

Emma Bluck com­peted in the 9hole girls comp tak­ing on the chal­leng­ing wa­ter holes on the back nine and shoot­ing a great score of 63 to be just be­hind the win­ners.

Mathew Bower and Matt Bluck were 18-hole rep­re­sen­ta­tives with Mathew Bower re­turn­ing from in­jury to pick up gross run­ner-up in C grade and in the A grade, Matt Bluck was 3rd in gross and nett win­ner with a score of 78.

The club con­grat­u­lated all the kids and said a big thankyou to Dave and Jaccy Thomas for do­ing the cater­ing and Bob Platt for do­ing the ta­ble and help­ing make the day the suc­cess it was.
