Airpark home to feature in popular home program
A WHITSUNDAY home, located at the airpark at the Whitsunday Airport in Flametree will be the feature property on the home design television program Australia’s Best Houses on Saturday, September 28.
The home was designed by Chris Clout and built by Airlie Builders. Mr Clout and Darryl McKenzie from Airlie Builders were onsite with the host and producer of the show, Gary Takle for the filming on Tuesday.
The entire episode will be hosted from the Whitsundays, with the airpark home the last of four homes from around Australia to feature. The program was filmed from the air and land, and Mr Takle interviewed the owner of the home, Greg Nankervis, the designer and the builder.
Mr Takle said the home, which was awarded best new home 351 – 450m2 and best use of timber at the Building Designers Association Queensland awards in July, was unique due to its location in an airpark, and because of its triangular shape, private hanger and the water feature running through the house.
He said Australia’s Best Houses had followed designer Chris Clout’s work, as he was one of the best in Australia and had featured on the program three times. He said the project was great overall, and that it took a very special builder to pull this kind of project off.
Mr Clout has designed three houses in the airpark, all built by Darryl McKenzie and his team at Airlie Builders.
He said he was passionate about designing tropical, modern homes, and that North Queensland was a great place to see his work turn into reality.
“Our work suits this climate and this area really works the best for us.”
Mr McKenzie said he was proud to be part of the project and of their work at the airpark. “It’s great for the area, great for the company and great for everyone involved.” He said many local contractors were used to build the home, which was completed in 2011.
The program, currently showing weekly on Aurora is moving to Channel 7TWO, and the episode featuring the Whitsunday property will be the first time it appears on free to air television.
It will air on Saturday, September 28 at 5pm on Channel 7TWO.
