Riff Raff reigns supreme in twilight race

Whitsunday Times - - ON THE WATER -

AFTER a busy few weeks before and after the Abell Point Marina Airlie Beach Race Week, the Whitsunday Sailing Club returned to weekly twilight racing last Wednesday.

Twelve boats, across three divisions, lined up for the race which began in 8-15 knot winds from the south-east.

Race officer Chris Reinbott set a 0.8 nautical mile triangle course, and despite creating a long reach for the yachts, all participants managed to finish within one and a half hours.

The only boat to sail in Division 1 was Overdrive, Rupert King, while five yachts started in Division 2 with Wobbly Boot, Craig Piccinelli, getting off with the best start.

On corrected time, it was Col Forster’s boat Esoteric, who took first place with Huahine, Nick Smail and Wobbly Boot in second and third.

Division 3 was hotly contested with most boats crossing the line within minutes of each other.

In the end, Dan White sailed Riff Raff tremendously to win both line honours and on corrected time.

Following in close behind was Kameruka, Mark and Bob Beale, in second place and High Tide, Shannon Hart, in third, on corrected time.
