Mixed re­sults as bowlers pre­pare for dis­trict comp

THE Proser­pine Bowls Club had some great rep­re­sen­ta­tion in the ladies cham­pion of cham­pion pairs.

On Tues­day, many bowlers gath­ered at Air­lie Beach to sup­port Lois Read and Dot Hin­schen in their game.

Read and Hin­schen didn’t get a good feel for the green and were de­feated by the team from Seaforth.

On Wed­nes­day, one of the games of con­sis­tency sin­gles was played.

Heather Brown 131, de­feated Joy Jef­fries 79 mi­nus 15.

In so­cial play, Trudy Hanne, Pam Selmes and Flo O’Han­lon de­feated Car­lie Al­bert­son, Betty Evans, Cathy Holmes and Heather Pat­ullo 28-14 and Dell McCor­mack and Gail Camm de­feated Fran Porter and Bar­bara Dam­mash 19-18.

On Thurs­day, Janet Mortimer trav­elled to Sub­ur­ban to play in the fi­nal of the cham­pion of cham­pion novice sin­gles. Sub­ur­ban’s car­pet was a new ex­pe­ri­ence for Mortimer and de­spite play­ing good bowls, she was de­feated by the novice from North­ern Beaches.

This Wed­nes­day, there are four games of con­sis­tency sin­gles sched­uled.

Gail Camm will take on Joan McGrath, Jo Peasley will play Heather Pat­ullo, Car­lie Al­bert­son against Amy Hart with Lois Read against Ma­ree Daf­fara.

Mark­ers for th­ese games will be Heather Brown, Bar­bara Dam­mash, Dot Hin­schen and Joy Jef­fries.

The ladies club will be cel­e­brat­ing their 72nd birth­day with their pres­i­dent’s at home day on Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 4.

Proser­pine Bowls mem­bers will be host­ing vis­i­tors from each of the Mackay and Bowen clubs for a morn­ing of bowls, a lun­cheon and two cent sales.

Mem­bers are re­minded to put their name in on the RSVP sheet in the club or ring through their RSVP to Heather Brown and that two cent sale prizes are asked for from each mem­ber.

On Satur­day, Barry Saroglia played the sin­gles cham­pion from Pi­o­neer Val­ley and de­spite a valiant ef­fort was de­feated.

Arthur Wil­liams de­feated Todd Leys in the fi­nal of the B grade sin­gles 25-14, at Proser­pine on Satur­day af­ter­noon.

From the score­card, it seemed to have been a re­ally closely con­tested match.

Wil­liams now has the op­tion of com­pet­ing in the cham­pion of cham­pion B sin­gles at Mar­ian on the week­end of Septem­ber 21-22.

An­other round of the mixed sin­gles was also played on Satur­day af­ter­noon.

Wayne Han­d­ley de­feated Dale Haack 25-5.

On Sun­day, Matthew and Gail Camm came from be­hind to de­feat Philip and Heather Brown 24-23 in the mixed pairs.

This game went into an ex­tra end, when scores were tied at 23 all at the com­ple­tion of the 21st end.

In so­cial bowls, Fran Porter, Trudy Hanne, Noelie Dibben and Joy Jef­fries de­feated Jeanette Cal­way, Arthur Wil­liams and Kevin Thoro­good 21-15.

Car­lie Al­bert­son, John Hen­der­son, John Dam­mash and Shane Spann de­feated Janet Mortimer, John Lah­ney, Pam Selmes and Bar­bara Dam­mash 26-16.

There was no Sun­day tro­phy drawn as the magic num­ber of 20 play­ers wasn’t reached.

The next com­pe­ti­tion will kick off this Sun­day, with a 1.30pm start.

Mixed fours will see Janet Mortimer, Fran Porter, John Hen­der­son and Ross Reville take on Arthur Wil­liams, Lois Read, Rob Tay­lor and Joy Jef­fries.

Matthew and Gail Camm, Dot Hin­schen and Barry Saroglia will go up against Noelie Dibben, Flo O’Han­lon, Jim Quod and Kevin Thoro­good.

The Pratt Cup team for the week­end of Septem­ber 7-8, sin­gles will be Michael Kin­n­ear, pairs Shane Spann and Gra­hame Kin­n­ear with the fours team con­sist­ing of Wayne Han­d­ley, Brian Pearce, Scott Kin­n­ear and Barry Saroglia.

The green and op­po­nents will be an­nounced at a later date.
