Mixed results as bowlers prepare for district comp
THE Proserpine Bowls Club had some great representation in the ladies champion of champion pairs.
On Tuesday, many bowlers gathered at Airlie Beach to support Lois Read and Dot Hinschen in their game.
Read and Hinschen didn’t get a good feel for the green and were defeated by the team from Seaforth.
On Wednesday, one of the games of consistency singles was played.
Heather Brown 131, defeated Joy Jeffries 79 minus 15.
In social play, Trudy Hanne, Pam Selmes and Flo O’Hanlon defeated Carlie Albertson, Betty Evans, Cathy Holmes and Heather Patullo 28-14 and Dell McCormack and Gail Camm defeated Fran Porter and Barbara Dammash 19-18.
On Thursday, Janet Mortimer travelled to Suburban to play in the final of the champion of champion novice singles. Suburban’s carpet was a new experience for Mortimer and despite playing good bowls, she was defeated by the novice from Northern Beaches.
This Wednesday, there are four games of consistency singles scheduled.
Gail Camm will take on Joan McGrath, Jo Peasley will play Heather Patullo, Carlie Albertson against Amy Hart with Lois Read against Maree Daffara.
Markers for these games will be Heather Brown, Barbara Dammash, Dot Hinschen and Joy Jeffries.
The ladies club will be celebrating their 72nd birthday with their president’s at home day on Wednesday, September 4.
Proserpine Bowls members will be hosting visitors from each of the Mackay and Bowen clubs for a morning of bowls, a luncheon and two cent sales.
Members are reminded to put their name in on the RSVP sheet in the club or ring through their RSVP to Heather Brown and that two cent sale prizes are asked for from each member.
On Saturday, Barry Saroglia played the singles champion from Pioneer Valley and despite a valiant effort was defeated.
Arthur Williams defeated Todd Leys in the final of the B grade singles 25-14, at Proserpine on Saturday afternoon.
From the scorecard, it seemed to have been a really closely contested match.
Williams now has the option of competing in the champion of champion B singles at Marian on the weekend of September 21-22.
Another round of the mixed singles was also played on Saturday afternoon.
Wayne Handley defeated Dale Haack 25-5.
On Sunday, Matthew and Gail Camm came from behind to defeat Philip and Heather Brown 24-23 in the mixed pairs.
This game went into an extra end, when scores were tied at 23 all at the completion of the 21st end.
In social bowls, Fran Porter, Trudy Hanne, Noelie Dibben and Joy Jeffries defeated Jeanette Calway, Arthur Williams and Kevin Thorogood 21-15.
Carlie Albertson, John Henderson, John Dammash and Shane Spann defeated Janet Mortimer, John Lahney, Pam Selmes and Barbara Dammash 26-16.
There was no Sunday trophy drawn as the magic number of 20 players wasn’t reached.
The next competition will kick off this Sunday, with a 1.30pm start.
Mixed fours will see Janet Mortimer, Fran Porter, John Henderson and Ross Reville take on Arthur Williams, Lois Read, Rob Taylor and Joy Jeffries.
Matthew and Gail Camm, Dot Hinschen and Barry Saroglia will go up against Noelie Dibben, Flo O’Hanlon, Jim Quod and Kevin Thorogood.
The Pratt Cup team for the weekend of September 7-8, singles will be Michael Kinnear, pairs Shane Spann and Grahame Kinnear with the fours team consisting of Wayne Handley, Brian Pearce, Scott Kinnear and Barry Saroglia.
The green and opponents will be announced at a later date.
