Tight contests at Proserpine tennis
IN THURSDAY night tennis in Proserpine Gavin Milne’s team ran away clean winners 70-29.
Milne’s team almost had a perfect score getting 70 out of possible 72 games for the night.
The only dropped set came when Glen Botes and Christopher Harvey had a win over Gavin Milne and Allan Trinder with the game going 6-4.
Christopher Harvey subbed for Thomas Koeck on Botes’ team while Milne had his full team there for the night.
It was a very close game between Layton Mitchell’s team and Howard Lawn’s team with Mitchell’s team coming from five games down at half time to win by one game.
No player on either team won all their sets on the night which showed how close the competition was between the two teams.
The last match of the evening took 20 minutes longer than any other to finish and it was no surprise to see Elspeth Scotford out there with her partner Jackie Mitchell playing the husband and wife team of Phil and Trish Cornish.
The game finished in a draw with two tie breaks 6-5, 5-6.
Trish Cornish subbed for Vee Randel on Layton Mitchell’s team and Andrew Scotford for Howard Lawn on his team.
After four weeks Lawn’s team still leads the competition on 262 games.
With Milne’s team having a good win, they have jumped from fourth position to second to have a one game lead on Mitchell’s team with 216 games to 215 games respectively.
In fourth position is Botes’ team on 175 games.
This Thursday night, Milne’s team will be playing against Mitchell’s and Botes’ team take on Lawn’s. The bye lines this week are two and six.
OUT ON COURT: Bradley Skaife, Matt Bluck, Trent Murray and Jackie Mitchell were all involved in the Thursday night tennis fixtures in Proserpine last week.
