Jonathon Dykyj The Greens

Mr Dykyj has con­tested the past two state elec­tions and was also a can­di­date in the 2010 fed­eral elec­tion. He has lived in the lo­cal re­gion for seven years and works for Mackay Re­gional Coun­cil.

Ge­orge Chris­tensen Lib­eral National Party of Queens­land

The cur­rent mem­ber was elected in 2010 when he de­feated La­bor’s James Bid­good. He has a back­ground in jour­nal­ism and pre­vi­ously ran his own lo­cal news­pa­per in the Mackay area. He was born and raised in Mackay and is a for­mer Mackay Shire Coun­cil­lor.

Lind­say Tem­ple Fam­ily First

A fourth gen­er­a­tion Mackay lo­cal, Mr Tem­ple spent al­most 20 years in the min­ing in­dus­try and ran a small me­chan­i­cal busi­ness for seven years. He is mar­ried with 10 chil­dren.

Ian Mau­rice Fer­gu­son Palmer United Party

Mr Fer­gu­son gave Clive Palmer his first job in real es­tate and has had strong ties with Mr Palmer ever since. Mr Fer­gu­son is the man­ag­ing di­rec­tor of op­er­a­tions at Queens­land Nickel and has a strong busi­ness back­ground with more than 35 years ex­pe­ri­ence with var­i­ous busi­nesses. He has had sev­eral busi­ness in­ter­ests of his own.

An­drew Har­ris Cit­i­zens Elec­toral Coun­cil

Mr Har­ris is a cane farmer in the Pi­o­neer Val­ley who has lived in the area most of his life. He pre­vi­ously stood for the seat of Daw­son in the 2004 elec­tion.

Bron­wyn Taha Aus­tralian La­bor Party

Ms Taha worked for the for­mer state La­bor Mem­ber for the Whit­sun­days Jan Jar­ratt. She also pre­vi­ously ran her own restau­rant in Proser­pine. She is mar­ried with three chil­dren and lives at Midge Point. She is in­volved in ser­val com­mu­nity and sport­ing groups.

Justin En­glert Kat­ter’s Aus­tralia Party

Mr En­glert has been an SES con­troller in Mackay since the Mackay floods in 2008. He is a for­mer spray painter who then spent 11 years in the air force be­fore be­com­ing an elec­tri­cian. He also worked in his par­ent’s fam­ily busi­ness. Mr En­glert was nar­rowly de­feated in the Mackay may­oral elec­tion last year.
