MEET THE FEDERAL ELECTION CANDIDATE FOR DAWSON
Jonathon Dykyj The Greens
Mr Dykyj has contested the past two state elections and was also a candidate in the 2010 federal election. He has lived in the local region for seven years and works for Mackay Regional Council.
George Christensen Liberal National Party of Queensland
The current member was elected in 2010 when he defeated Labor’s James Bidgood. He has a background in journalism and previously ran his own local newspaper in the Mackay area. He was born and raised in Mackay and is a former Mackay Shire Councillor.
Lindsay Temple Family First
A fourth generation Mackay local, Mr Temple spent almost 20 years in the mining industry and ran a small mechanical business for seven years. He is married with 10 children.
Ian Maurice Ferguson Palmer United Party
Mr Ferguson gave Clive Palmer his first job in real estate and has had strong ties with Mr Palmer ever since. Mr Ferguson is the managing director of operations at Queensland Nickel and has a strong business background with more than 35 years experience with various businesses. He has had several business interests of his own.
Andrew Harris Citizens Electoral Council
Mr Harris is a cane farmer in the Pioneer Valley who has lived in the area most of his life. He previously stood for the seat of Dawson in the 2004 election.
Bronwyn Taha Australian Labor Party
Ms Taha worked for the former state Labor Member for the Whitsundays Jan Jarratt. She also previously ran her own restaurant in Proserpine. She is married with three children and lives at Midge Point. She is involved in serval community and sporting groups.
Justin Englert Katter’s Australia Party
Mr Englert has been an SES controller in Mackay since the Mackay floods in 2008. He is a former spray painter who then spent 11 years in the air force before becoming an electrician. He also worked in his parent’s family business. Mr Englert was narrowly defeated in the Mackay mayoral election last year.
