Shoes to be theme for new exhbition BIRTHDAY EXHIBITION
EXQUISITE shoes depicting feathered swans, a children’s playground and 1950’s rock‘n’roll fashion will be some of the works on display at Art Whitsunday’s latest exhibition to be held on Saturday, September 27.
The exhibition titled One Step at a Time will be a part of Art Whitsunday’s second birthday celebrations and will feature a range of stunning artworks by local artists surrounding the central theme of shoes.
Art Whitsunday held an open workshop on Saturday to inspire artists and members of the community to step outside their comfort zone and create shoes for the exhibition.
Workshop organiser Belinda Curry said there were some bizarre and funky designs emerging.
“We are hoping to have giant footprints leading from main street into the exhibition and there will be a game of twister on the night for a little bit of fun,” she said.
“The shoe exhibition will be supported by other works by local artists including beautiful sculptures, paintings, ceramics and photography of the region.”
As a self-confessed shoe fanatic, Patricia Wyllie said the workshop was a great opportunity to turn something old into something new.
“I had a pair of old clogs that have been in my cupboard for years and I just imagined the possibilities of what I could create with them,” she said.
All members of the community are welcome to attend the exhibition at the Art Whitsunday Gallery, which opens at 6.30pm.
Art Whitsunday holds a members meeting at the gallery on the first Sunday of every month at 2pm and new members are welcome to attend.
