Close calls in consistency singles
THREE games of consistency singles were played last week with the penalty for moving the jack, coming very much into play in determining the overall outcomes of those games.
In consistency singles, the aim is to draw as close to the jack as possible, but not move it.
A penalty of five points is deducted from the total score for movement of over 1m, 10 points for over 2m.
Joan McGrath 121 defeated Gail Camm 89, Jo Peasley 104 ½ defeated Heather Patullo 105 ½ minus 5 and Amy Hart 98 minus 5 defeated Carlie Albertson 112 minus 25.
In social play on Wednesday, Fran Porter, John Lahney and Flo O’Hanlon defeated Betty Evans, Janet Mortimer and Joy Jeffries 21-20 and Trudy Hanne, Cathy Holmes and Pepper Evans defeated Dell McCormack, Arthur Williams and Joyce Patullo 33-14.
This Wednesday is the 72nd President’s At Home with players coming from all the Mackay district clubs and from Wangaratta to help celebrate this event.
Competition for Wednesday, September 11 is another three games of consistency singles with June Blair taking on Annette Patullo, Lill Harris versing Flo O’Hanlon and Lois Read going up against Maree Daffara.
The markers are Gail Camm, Heather Patullo and Jo Peasley.
The next committee meeting is Monday, September 9 at 9am.
On Sunday afternoon two games of mixed fours and social bowls were played.
In the competition games Janet Mortimer, Fran Porter, John Henderson and Ross Reville defeated Arthur Williams, Lois Read, Rob Taylor and Joy Jeffries 23-12 and Matthew Camm, Gail Camm, Dot Hinschen and Barry Saroglia defeated Noelie Dibben, Flo O’Hanlon, Jim Quod and Kevin Thorogood 21-14.
In social bowls Jo Peasley and Philip Brown defeated John Lahney and Heather Brown 27-20, Graeme Wallace (visitor from Warrick East), Trudy Hanne, Pam Selmes and Barbara Dammash defeated Jeanette Calway, John Dammash and Vince Olsen 21-19.
The Proserpine club is sending a team away in the Pratt Cup this weekend.
Competition for this Saturday at 12.30pm will see the final of B pairs with Matthew Camm and Dale Haack taking on Ted Cullen and Steve Lawrie.
On Sunday at 1.30pm Lois Read and Rob Taylor will play Faylene and David Cooke in mixed pairs.
