Close calls in con­sis­tency sin­gles

THREE games of con­sis­tency sin­gles were played last week with the penalty for mov­ing the jack, com­ing very much into play in de­ter­min­ing the over­all out­comes of those games.

In con­sis­tency sin­gles, the aim is to draw as close to the jack as pos­si­ble, but not move it.

A penalty of five points is de­ducted from the to­tal score for move­ment of over 1m, 10 points for over 2m.

Joan McGrath 121 de­feated Gail Camm 89, Jo Peasley 104 ½ de­feated Heather Pat­ullo 105 ½ mi­nus 5 and Amy Hart 98 mi­nus 5 de­feated Car­lie Al­bert­son 112 mi­nus 25.

In so­cial play on Wed­nes­day, Fran Porter, John Lah­ney and Flo O’Han­lon de­feated Betty Evans, Janet Mortimer and Joy Jef­fries 21-20 and Trudy Hanne, Cathy Holmes and Pep­per Evans de­feated Dell McCor­mack, Arthur Wil­liams and Joyce Pat­ullo 33-14.

This Wed­nes­day is the 72nd Pres­i­dent’s At Home with play­ers com­ing from all the Mackay dis­trict clubs and from Wan­garatta to help cel­e­brate this event.

Com­pe­ti­tion for Wed­nes­day, Septem­ber 11 is an­other three games of con­sis­tency sin­gles with June Blair tak­ing on An­nette Pat­ullo, Lill Har­ris vers­ing Flo O’Han­lon and Lois Read go­ing up against Ma­ree Daf­fara.

The mark­ers are Gail Camm, Heather Pat­ullo and Jo Peasley.

The next com­mit­tee meet­ing is Mon­day, Septem­ber 9 at 9am.

On Sun­day af­ter­noon two games of mixed fours and so­cial bowls were played.

In the com­pe­ti­tion games Janet Mortimer, Fran Porter, John Hen­der­son and Ross Reville de­feated Arthur Wil­liams, Lois Read, Rob Tay­lor and Joy Jef­fries 23-12 and Matthew Camm, Gail Camm, Dot Hin­schen and Barry Saroglia de­feated Noelie Dibben, Flo O’Han­lon, Jim Quod and Kevin Thoro­good 21-14.

In so­cial bowls Jo Peasley and Philip Brown de­feated John Lah­ney and Heather Brown 27-20, Graeme Wal­lace (vis­i­tor from War­rick East), Trudy Hanne, Pam Selmes and Bar­bara Dam­mash de­feated Jeanette Cal­way, John Dam­mash and Vince Olsen 21-19.

The Proser­pine club is send­ing a team away in the Pratt Cup this week­end.

Com­pe­ti­tion for this Satur­day at 12.30pm will see the fi­nal of B pairs with Matthew Camm and Dale Haack tak­ing on Ted Cullen and Steve Lawrie.

On Sun­day at 1.30pm Lois Read and Rob Tay­lor will play Fay­lene and David Cooke in mixed pairs.
