AFTER more than a decade without a reserves team the Proserpine-Whitsunday Raiders will look to complete a stunning return to the Mackay competition with a grand final win this Saturday.

Player numbers have been outstanding for the Raiders this season and the depth of their squad’s talent has shown with both the A grade and reserves team fighting it out for the premiership against Kuttabul in Mackay this Saturday.

Coach Hemi Taukiri paid tribute to all the players who have turned out for the reserves this season and said they are every chance of upsetting the Camelboks this weekend.

“The character and attitude of these guys is just incredible. They always turn up to training and put in the hard yards and there is a great camaraderie between all our players,” he said.

“It’s two and two between us and Kuttabul this year and both teams are pretty even. They deserve to be favourites but anything can happen in a final and it all comes down to who wants it the most.”

Taukiri is looking for experienced heads Terry Saunders, Kon Flaherty and Luke Griffiths to lead from the front as the Raiders look to cap a remarkable return to the reserve grade competition.

“Every player needs to stand up and be counted and play their hardest rugby for 80 minutes,” he said.
