Riders visit for equestrian event
THE Whitsunday Equestrian Group (WEG) hosted a two day competition on the weekend at the Cannonvalley Pony Club grounds.
Riders and their families travelled from as far north as Townsville and as far south as Sarina for the dressage and showjumping event.
WEG secretary Tracey Davies said although attendance numbers were less than previous events, riders still enjoyed a high level of competition.
“Visiting families were impressed with Cannonvalley Pony Club grounds and enjoyed their stay in the beautiful Whitsundays,” she said.
Equestrian Australia accredited coach Evan Parker, who is a regular instructor for local riders, built the showjumping course and judged throughout the weekend. The dressage segment of the event was judged by Equestrian Australia accredited judge Glenis Jones who is a regular official at North Queensland events.
The event featured champion young rider and champion senior rider classes for both dressage and showjumping and points were calculated over the two days.
Tori Mansfield from Conway was the champion junior rider and Christine Dale from Townsville was the champion for the seniors. Dressage Champions were Shannon Wilcox (Bowen) in the juniors and Lisa Nicol (Ayr) in the seniors.
