Disco dance party to raise funds for local family
MORE than 60 local children and their parents went dressed in their brightest disco outfits and dancing shoes for 121 Child Care’s Danceathon on Friday.
The Danceathon was held to raise funds for the family of 21-month-old Jorjia Linthwaite who is currently undergoing treatment for Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML) in Brisbane.
Children bounced around singing to all of the latest music hits and some old favourites including heads, shoulders, knees and toes.
Director of 121 Child Care Shylie Tarver said Jorjia was attending the childcare when she was diagnosed with the rare type of cancer in July this year.
“We wanted to hold this special event for the Linthwaite family to not only show our support but give other local families an opportunity to help make a donation,” she said.
“The generosity of families in the community has been really overwhelming and we have received donations from as little as $10 right up to $100.”
Opal Harrison from Zumba Fitness Whitsundays volunteered her time to help out at the Danceathon and said the kids busted out some great new moves during the freestyle dancing sessions and choreographed routines.
