Family tennis going strong
FRIDAY saw everyone on the court enjoying a game of tennis, when 22 pairs played in the anything-goes round robin.
Division 1 winners were Geoff Price and Matthew Henning. The brother team Daniel and Nick Cullen won Division 2 and in Division 3, the dad and son combination of Scott and Darcy Milne won the evening.
It was six-year-old Darcy’s first competitive match, so it was very exciting for the family and Darcy was very proud.
For the first time, some tennis mums, Cath Mau and Fiona Beveridge decided it was there turn to take to the courts, rather than sit and watch their daughters play. This was their first time as partners and players and they were a fearless combination.
There was a fantastic turnout for Monday junior afternoon tennis. Brother and sister team, Kohan and Jordyn Mau played well as did Caitlyn and Hayden Linsey-Wilmott and Grace and Josh King.
All sessions of cardio tennis throughout the week were well attended.
Aaron Blackburn showed some skill on Tuesday morning and Jon Miller performed well later that day.
Tuesday and Saturday afternoon players were put to the test with strong wind gusts playing havoc with ball placement, although this didn’t stop Kay Hoare, Rae Miller, Betty Wilson, Merle Foot or Trish Rouse from hitting the court.
Good luck to Amy Hungerford, Sienna Mau, Rebecca Beve- ridge, Emma Bradtke and Trent Murray who are playing in the A finals of the round robin series in Townsville.
Coaching pupil of the week was Jordan Bannister who loves to play tennis. A reminder that Whitsunday Tennis’ Fit Fun Tennis Camp in the Sun is on in the first week of the holidays, including the mornings the of the 23, 24 and 25 September.
