Close games in Proserpine
THE Howard Lawn team were victorious in Thursday night tennis, beating Gavin Milne 66/43.
The matches between the two captains in the first half was as close as it can get with it finishing as 6-5, 5-6. The competition lasted throughout the matches, with both teams taking three sets each with Howard Lawn’s team having a slight two game advantage 30 games to 28 games at half time. But in the second half Howard Lawn’s team ran away with it winning six from six sets to finish with a 23 game lead 66 games to 43 games.
Thanks to Col Casswell from Home Hill who was down here for couple of days while subbing for Matt Bluck on Gavin Milne’s team. Howard Lawn had his full team there for the night.
In the other match, Glen Botes team beat Layton Mitchell’s 61/49.
It was also a very close game for these two teams with both of them winning three sets each in the first half with Glen Botes team scoring a slight three game advantage. The second half started like the first half with both team captains and their line three players drawing for their two sets. Glen Botes and Keith Jeppesen drew against Layton Mitchell and Michael Sunderland, finishing off 6-5, 5-6, but like Howard Lawn’s team, the rest of Glen Botes team played well in the second half with the team winning four of the six sets to finish up with 61 games to 49 games.
Thanks to Mika Stimson for subbing for Andrew Mau and Jackie Mitchell playing up a line for her team mate Breana Chauntler on Glen Botes team and Christopher Harvey for subbing for Jack Jordan on Layton Mitchell’s team.
After six weeks Howard Lawn’s team still leads the competition on 387 games. Gavin Milne’s team hold onto the second place despite the loss with 320 games. Layton Mitchell’s team is in third place on 307 and in fourth place is Glen Botes team on 276 games.
In tonight’s games, Gavin Milne’s team will be playing against Glen Bote’s team and Layton Mitchell’s team will be playing against Howard Lawn’s team. The bye lines this week are 1 and 5.
A reminder that social tennis is played at the Proserpine Tennis Courts in Jupp Street on Saturday from 2.30pm.
