THE Howard Lawn team were vic­to­ri­ous in Thurs­day night ten­nis, beat­ing Gavin Milne 66/43.

The matches be­tween the two cap­tains in the first half was as close as it can get with it fin­ish­ing as 6-5, 5-6. The com­pe­ti­tion lasted through­out the matches, with both teams tak­ing three sets each with Howard Lawn’s team hav­ing a slight two game ad­van­tage 30 games to 28 games at half time. But in the sec­ond half Howard Lawn’s team ran away with it win­ning six from six sets to fin­ish with a 23 game lead 66 games to 43 games.

Thanks to Col Cass­well from Home Hill who was down here for cou­ple of days while sub­bing for Matt Bluck on Gavin Milne’s team. Howard Lawn had his full team there for the night.

In the other match, Glen Botes team beat Lay­ton Mitchell’s 61/49.

It was also a very close game for th­ese two teams with both of them win­ning three sets each in the first half with Glen Botes team scor­ing a slight three game ad­van­tage. The sec­ond half started like the first half with both team cap­tains and their line three play­ers draw­ing for their two sets. Glen Botes and Keith Jeppe­sen drew against Lay­ton Mitchell and Michael Sun­der­land, fin­ish­ing off 6-5, 5-6, but like Howard Lawn’s team, the rest of Glen Botes team played well in the sec­ond half with the team win­ning four of the six sets to fin­ish up with 61 games to 49 games.

Thanks to Mika Stim­son for sub­bing for An­drew Mau and Jackie Mitchell play­ing up a line for her team mate Bre­ana Chauntler on Glen Botes team and Christopher Harvey for sub­bing for Jack Jor­dan on Lay­ton Mitchell’s team.

Af­ter six weeks Howard Lawn’s team still leads the com­pe­ti­tion on 387 games. Gavin Milne’s team hold onto the sec­ond place de­spite the loss with 320 games. Lay­ton Mitchell’s team is in third place on 307 and in fourth place is Glen Botes team on 276 games.

In tonight’s games, Gavin Milne’s team will be play­ing against Glen Bote’s team and Lay­ton Mitchell’s team will be play­ing against Howard Lawn’s team. The bye lines this week are 1 and 5.

A re­minder that so­cial ten­nis is played at the Proser­pine Ten­nis Courts in Jupp Street on Satur­day from 2.30pm.
