Players awarded for great season
THE skills of Whitsunday Junior Raiders players were on show at the Whitsunday Sports Park for the final round of the Viking Cup Club Championships on Friday night.
The under 10s Surt Fire Giants went head to head with Oden’s Ghost Riders for their finals clash on the night, running away with a 15-5 victory.
More than 100 junior Raiders players gathered to support the two sides after an impressive six week season.
Whitsunday Junior Raiders president Sharron Pratt said all players had improved significantly.
“Many of the players were itching for more games which is why we launched the inhouse Vikings Cup Club Championships and many of them are looking forward to building a pathway into the senior grades,” she said.
“The kids have been so inspired by the senior players through the school camps in the holidays so they know a lot of them personally which is great for building their confi- dence in the sport.” Many of the young Raiders travelled with their families to watch the Whitsunday Raiders A grade and reserves double premiership win over the Kuttabul Camelboks in Mackay on Saturday.
A grade player Martin Roveda, who was volunteering at the Vikings Cup Club Championships, said there was some great talent coming through the club.
“They are a great bunch of dedicated young players and need to keep training and improving their skills,” he said.
“We are happy to give the younger players our support and it is great when we hear them cheering us on in our games.”

The 10-a-side competition will be open to boys and girls in under 10s, under 12s and under 14s.
