Season end for our junior Sea Eagles
AFTER a great season, the junior Sea Eagles season is now over for all three teams after the under 13s and under 15s lost their games last Saturday in Mackay.
The under 13s were beaten in the preliminary final against the Mackay City Hawks last Saturday, who will now face off against the Mackay Saints in the grand final match this weekend.
After a slow start to the game, the Eagles came storming home to nearly snatch victory losing by only one point. This was by far the best team performance of the season with every player having their best game.
The under 15s went down to a very polished Saints team who were too big across the park for the younger Eagles. In a disappointing finish to the season the players gave their all and showed signs of how good they will be in the future as a team and also individually.
Jim Barnett has done a great job with the youngsters developing their skill sets which have impressed all within the Mackay League.
The under 18s went down the week before in the elimination final against the Saints. In a game that was described as the best junior game all year the undermanned Eagles were gallant in losing by 3 points.
At the three quarter time break the Eagles were 7 goals down and heading into a strong breeze for the last quarter.
As has been the case all year with this group guts, courage and determination underlined their performance to come back to within three points.
Ash Liebeck kicked four goals in the last quarter in a sensational performance.
The 18s had five 14-year-olds in the team due to low numbers and they all performed extremely well.
FAST-PACED ACTION: Whitsunday Sea Eagles player Brodie Jackson gets away a kick his team's under 13 preliminary final again the Mackay City Hawks last Saturday.
