Undefeated season for WFC women

Whitsunday Times - - SPORT -

THE Whitsunday Football Club’s womens team has had an undefeated season and will now play in their first semi-final this Friday.

The team plays in the Mackay regional zone in division 1 and is made up of players from as far north as Bowen and as far south as Bloomsbury, as well as Proserpine, Cannonvale and Airlie Beach.

This is the the first time in the history of Whitsunday Football Club, that a team has remained undefeated throughout the season.

Coach Florien Feirer, took on the ladies at the beginning of the season not knowing what he was in for as some of the girls are seasoned players, while others are playing competitive football for the first time.

Feirer, or Flo to the team, has done a great job developing the team to the heights they have reached.

This Friday night the women’s team will kick off in the semis against the Magpies at the Magpies Sporting Complex at 6pm.

The preliminary finals will be played the following Friday and the grand final on Saturday, 28 September.

The premier men have also had a good season and will play this Saturday in the semis against the Lions at the same venue.

Coach Bob Spees, who took over coaching mid-season, has high hopes for the boys when they clash with the Lions in the first match that will hopefully lead them to premiership glory.

TEAM EFFORT: Whitsunday FC players Nardarh Warren, Jenny Divers, Addie Poid, Robyn Dean, Rosie Taylor, Frances Stannard, Darcey Borellini, (centre) Becka Page, (front) Abi Draper, Morgan Tween and Tyrah Dunn after they defeated the Magpies 6-0 on Sunday.
