Com­pet­i­tive fin­ish for busi­ness house bowls

AIR­LIE BEACH BOWLS

THE reg­u­lar stream of vis­i­tors over the past few months have eased off as they all head for home, but sev­eral were there to play last week, in­clud­ing Clyde and Yvonne Ruther­ford, Mick Brown­ing, Bernie Hick­man, Dennis Ruse, Jeff New­man and Ron Ryan.

On Tues­day, Septem­ber 2, the ladies win­ners were Yvonne and Clyde Ruther­ford with Jill Spencer who de­feated Di Dob­bins, Marie Welsh and Margo Stan­ley 16/13.

The men’s games on Wed­nes­day were very com­pet­i­tive, and the win­ners were David Stock, Nik Fern­bach and Dennis Ruse who de­feated John For­nasiero, Dom Sposato and Herb Se­comb 30/5.

On the next rink Ken Ry­der, Greg Burge and Keith Beetham de­feated Clyde Ruther­ford, Mick Brown­ing and Wally Gray 15/9, and on rink 5 David Zim­mer­man, Bernie Hick­man and Jeff New­man de­feated Col Howes, Ron Spencer and Jack Dob­bins 23/15.

Busi­ness House Bowls played their last game on Wed­nes­day night. The over­all win­ners were Char­ter Yachts Aus­tralia, fol­lowed closely by Porters and Whit­sun­day Es­cape.

The last few rounds were very com­pet­i­tive, and all teams tried to im­prove their game and beat Char­ter Yachts, who lead for most of the se­ries. Th­ese im­prove­ments brought the win­ning mar­gins down dra­mat­i­cally, and it was one of the clos­est se­ries yet. The last round of the 2013 com­pe­ti­tion will start in Oc­to­ber.

Those play­ing bare­foot bowls on Fri­day night were joined by the pi­o­neers from Air­lie Beach re­union that oc­curred ear­lier in June.

They en­joyed view­ing the new his­tor­i­cal DVD and pho­tos which were com­piled by pho­tog­ra­pher Adrian Con­nor.

The ladies fours car­ni­val will be held on Tues­day, Oc­to­ber 1 and bring a friend day to the club is on Tues­day, 17 Septem­ber. The dates for the Whit­sun­day Food Ser­vices day will be ad­vised soon.

The club’s an­nual gen­eral meet­ing will be on Sun­day, Septem­ber 29 at 10.30am and the next board meet­ing is on 17 Septem­ber at 5pm.

GREAT RE­SULT: The Char­ter Yachts Aus­tralia team Mau­reen Barnard, Cathy Rus­sell, Keith McKen­zie and Gary Rus­sell hold­ing the per­pet­ual tro­phies af­ter their win­ning game last Wed­nes­day.

BOWL­ING FUN: Nick Fern­bach, Steve Tat­tam, Ron Ryan, Ron Spence, David Zim­mer­man and David Dias en­joyed a game of so­cial bowls at the Air­lie Beach Bowls Club on Sun­day af­ter­noon.
