Road­works cause de­lays

MO­TORISTS trav­el­ling from Air­lie Beach to Proser­pine and fur­ther south this week have had to sit through de­lays of up to 45 min­utes due to road­works on the Bruce High­way.

Driv­ers faced lengthy de­lays as traf­fic backed up well past the Myr­tle Creek turnoff.

A Depart­ment of Trans­port and Main Roads spokesper­son said they were un­der­tak­ing resur­fac­ing works on the Bruce High­way in Proser­pine be­tween the Proser­pine River bridge and Ful­james Street.

“The works are ex­pected to take about two weeks to com­plete,” the spokesper­son said.

“Con­ges­tion was ex­pe­ri­enced through Proser­pine on Mon­day and Tues­day, and we have looked at mea­sures to re­duce this con­ges­tion.”

The sec­tions that re­quire a lane clo­sure will now be com­pleted at night or on the week­end.

The spokesper­son said they un­der­stand the is­sues these works are caus­ing for the trav­el­ling pub­lic and thanked mo­torists for their on­go­ing pa­tience.
