Rates now over­due

RATEPAY­ERS who did not pay their rates by the close of busi­ness on Mon­day will not re­ceive the 5 per cent dis­count.

Ac­cord­ing to the Coun­cil a toal of $34.3mil­lion in rates have been is­sued and only about $5.6mil­lion re­main un­paid.

There are a to­tal of 17,525 ratepay­ers and based on these fig­ures, it is be­lived more than 2500 of them still owe their rates for this fi­nan­cial year.

Cr Whit­ney said more than 80 per cent of the re­gion's ratepay­ers had taken ad­van­tage of the dis­count avail­able and as a re­sult had helped Coun­cil en­sure it worked through one of the tough­est bud­gets in his­tory.

Mayor Whit­ney said it was a chal­leng­ing time for the com­mu­nity, not only with rates but with the cost of liv­ing hav­ing a heavy im­pact on many fam­i­lies and busi­nesses.
