Artists ready for shoe ex­hi­bi­tion next week

LARGE colour­ful foot­prints will pave the way for guests head­ing to Art Whit­sun­day’s lat­est ex­hi­bi­tion to be held on Fri­day, Septem­ber 27. The ex­hi­bi­tion ti­tled

One Step at a Time is a part of Art Whit­sun­day’s sec­ond birth­day cel­e­bra­tions and will fea­ture a range of in­trigu­ing art works by lo­cal artists around the cen­tral theme of shoes.

Art Whit­sun­day re­cently held a work­shop to in­spire lo­cal artists and mem­bers of the com­mu­nity to step out­side their com­fort zone and cre­ate unique shoes for the ex­hi­bi­tion.

High heels shoes re­sem­bling beau­ti­ful swans, a chil­dren’s play­ground and 1950’s rock and roll mem­o­ra­bilia were among the many de­signs tak­ing shape dur­ing the work­shop.

Art Whit­sun­day co-or­di­na­tor Dot Smith said many artists were still busy pre­par­ing shoes for the ex­hi­bi­tion.

“At the artists’ dis­cre­tion some of the shoes will be avail­able for pur­chase,” she said.

The event will also be sup­ported by other works by lo­cal artists in­clud­ing beau­ti­ful sculp­tures, paint­ings, ce­ram­ics and pho­tog­ra­phy of the re­gion.

There will also be num­ber of fun games in­clud­ing a round of twis­ter on the night and a large shoe themed birth­day cake to kick off the cel­e­bra­tion.

All artists con­tribut­ing work must de­liver their pieces to the Art Whit­sun­day Gallery by Wednes­day, Septem­ber 25.

The gallery is lo­cated be­hind McDon­ald’s on the Air­lie Beach main street and the event is open to all mem­bers of the com­mu­nity.

Mem­bers meet­ings are held at the gallery on the first Sun­day of ev­ery month at 2pm and new mem­bers are wel­come to at­tend.
