Treasure VIII claims win in offshore race
GLASSED out conditions on Saturday caused a delay in the start time for the Whitsunday Ocean Services Short Offshore race.
After 12 noon, the diminished fleet got away for the race around a windward mark followed by a tour around Daydream Island and back, to finish at the club.
Treasure VIII, Clay Bauman, sailed well to finish the race in two hours and 33 minutes ahead of Wobbly Boot, Craig Piccinelli, who was a further 12 minutes behind.
This was enough to give Treasure VIII the win by two minutes on corrected time.
High Tide, Shannon Hart, sailed the course in two hours and 45 minutes to be first home in division three however Breakaway, Rob Davis, finished only two minutes behind which gave him a comfortable win on corrected time.
This Sunday is the final heat in the NQ Telecom Challenger’s Cup for offbeach and offshore yachts beginning at 1pm and with the recent run of great weather it’s a great time to dust off the boat and go sailing.
ON THE BREEZE: Breakaway sailors Sallyanne Hay, Craig Bridges, Rob Davis and Fleur Stone were the winners of Division 3 while the Treasure VIII team Margaret Neill-Ballantine, Clay Bauman and Tanya Watts took out first place in the Division 2 in the Whitsunday Ocean Services Short Offshore Race on Saturday.
