Jones takes win on count back

LAST Satur­day Dar­ren Jones scored a count back win over Nick Lange af­ter they both scored 64.

A good to­tal of 60 play­ers turned out for Satur­day’s comp to play a stroke round in ideal golf­ing weather.

The win­ner of the ladies comp was Paula Wron­ski, who played an ex­cel­lent 68, four ahead of Reh Hull on 72.

In the men’s run­down Dean Torti came in with 65 nett, fol­lowed by Wal Rein­tals on 67 and Mick Ka­vanagh, Paul Joice, Al­bert Pini, Scott Wardroper and Kelvin Stephens all on 68.

Near­est-the-pins went to Barry Mor­timer on hole 2, Meg Lyons on 9, Michael Cragg on 13, and Al­bert Pini on 16.

Five play­ers shared the two shot club – Dar­ren Jones and Gary Scot­ford who both ea­gled hole 10, and Luke Wal­lace, Mick Dibben and Michael Cragg who all birdied 13.

Thurs­day saw 54 play­ers take to the course in won­der­ful con­di­tions to com­pete in a stable­ford event over both 9 and 18-holes.

Win­ner of the ma­jor 18-hole sec­tion of the comp was Barry Mor­timer who won on count back from Tim McBride, both scor­ing 40 points.

The run­down com­prised Lance Lloyd on 39, Peter Krause, Michael Cragg, Jim Dow­ell and Mick Dibben all on 38, with Tom Flem­ing bring­ing up the rear on 37.

The 9-hole comp was taken out by Lance Lloyd with 25 points, ahead of run­ner-up Tim McBride ahead on count back from Bren­don Me­harry and Barry Mor­timer on 24, with the rest of the run­down in­clud­ing Mick Dibben on 23, and Karl Wolzak, Chris Doblo and Mark Ni­col all com­ing in with 22.

Near­est-the-pins went to Ron Lit­tle on hole 2, Lance Lloyd on 9, Peter Krause on 13, and Peter Brown­ing on 16.

Play­ers will vie for the monthly Ho­tel Metropole Stable­ford comp this Satur­day, with Thurs­day play­ers com­pet­ing in a stroke event over both 9 and 18-holes.

Tee times are to suit in­di­vid­u­als but please book at the pro shop to en­sure smooth play.


Last Wednes­day 22 ladies com­peted in a two-ball am- brose event for Kath Borer’s tro­phy day.

A great round of 65 nett by the Mar­lene Gray and Jac­qui Wall part­ner­ship re­sulted in them win­ning, ahead of Reh Hull and Linda Wardroper on 69.5 nett.

Anna Win­ter­bourn and Jenny Houn­sell were third on 70. Near­est-the-pin win­ning teams were Anna Win­ter­bourn and Jenny Houn­sell on hole 6, with Ali­son Day and Beryl Nor­swor­thy tak­ing out 18. Com­ing up is the Reh Hull and Tiny Emer­son’s stable­ford fun day on Wednes­day, Septem­ber 25 fol­lowed by the monthly medal rounds on Wednes­day, Oc­to­ber 2 and Satur­day, Oc­to­ber 5.


On Sun­day num­bers were light due to play­ers’ work com­mit­ments but the win­ner was Mick Bur­rows with a 39/ 46.

Run­ner-up was prove­dore Jock An­der­sen with 50/47 and third was Al Greedy with 54/ 49.

No-one was able to claim near­est-the-pin on hole 13 but 16 went to Mick Bur­rows.

Snake put­ter was Don Schur­ing, least num­ber of putts went to Tom Flem­ing with 14 and Brad­man’s was Paul Grace 57/62.

Next Sun­day will be played on the front 9 and the club hopes to see a big­ger turnout of play­ers.

LO­CAL COMP: Rus­sell Ashby, Nick Lange and Al­bert Pink com­peted in the stroke event at the Proser­pine Golf Club on Satur­day.
