Jones takes win on count back
LAST Saturday Darren Jones scored a count back win over Nick Lange after they both scored 64.
A good total of 60 players turned out for Saturday’s comp to play a stroke round in ideal golfing weather.
The winner of the ladies comp was Paula Wronski, who played an excellent 68, four ahead of Reh Hull on 72.
In the men’s rundown Dean Torti came in with 65 nett, followed by Wal Reintals on 67 and Mick Kavanagh, Paul Joice, Albert Pini, Scott Wardroper and Kelvin Stephens all on 68.
Nearest-the-pins went to Barry Mortimer on hole 2, Meg Lyons on 9, Michael Cragg on 13, and Albert Pini on 16.
Five players shared the two shot club – Darren Jones and Gary Scotford who both eagled hole 10, and Luke Wallace, Mick Dibben and Michael Cragg who all birdied 13.
Thursday saw 54 players take to the course in wonderful conditions to compete in a stableford event over both 9 and 18-holes.
Winner of the major 18-hole section of the comp was Barry Mortimer who won on count back from Tim McBride, both scoring 40 points.
The rundown comprised Lance Lloyd on 39, Peter Krause, Michael Cragg, Jim Dowell and Mick Dibben all on 38, with Tom Fleming bringing up the rear on 37.
The 9-hole comp was taken out by Lance Lloyd with 25 points, ahead of runner-up Tim McBride ahead on count back from Brendon Meharry and Barry Mortimer on 24, with the rest of the rundown including Mick Dibben on 23, and Karl Wolzak, Chris Doblo and Mark Nicol all coming in with 22.
Nearest-the-pins went to Ron Little on hole 2, Lance Lloyd on 9, Peter Krause on 13, and Peter Browning on 16.
Players will vie for the monthly Hotel Metropole Stableford comp this Saturday, with Thursday players competing in a stroke event over both 9 and 18-holes.
Tee times are to suit individuals but please book at the pro shop to ensure smooth play.
Last Wednesday 22 ladies competed in a two-ball am- brose event for Kath Borer’s trophy day.
A great round of 65 nett by the Marlene Gray and Jacqui Wall partnership resulted in them winning, ahead of Reh Hull and Linda Wardroper on 69.5 nett.
Anna Winterbourn and Jenny Hounsell were third on 70. Nearest-the-pin winning teams were Anna Winterbourn and Jenny Hounsell on hole 6, with Alison Day and Beryl Norsworthy taking out 18. Coming up is the Reh Hull and Tiny Emerson’s stableford fun day on Wednesday, September 25 followed by the monthly medal rounds on Wednesday, October 2 and Saturday, October 5.
On Sunday numbers were light due to players’ work commitments but the winner was Mick Burrows with a 39/ 46.
Runner-up was provedore Jock Andersen with 50/47 and third was Al Greedy with 54/ 49.
No-one was able to claim nearest-the-pin on hole 13 but 16 went to Mick Burrows.
Snake putter was Don Schuring, least number of putts went to Tom Fleming with 14 and Bradman’s was Paul Grace 57/62.
Next Sunday will be played on the front 9 and the club hopes to see a bigger turnout of players.
LOCAL COMP: Russell Ashby, Nick Lange and Albert Pink competed in the stroke event at the Proserpine Golf Club on Saturday.
