Kerchers win Cal­tex comp

A CROWD of 41 play­ers turned out to play the an­nual Cal­tex Proser­pine spon­sored 2- ball Am­brose com­pe­ti­tion last Sun­day and the re­sults in­di­cate the close com­pe­ti­tion that en­sued.

Tac­tics and strat­egy are al­most as im­por­tant a com­po­nent of the game as tal­ent and the team of Dean and An­nie Kercher played well to win the day.

Frus­tra­tion also showed with one player tak­ing out the dummy-spit award which means they wear the dummy for each com­pe­ti­tion un­til it is won by some­one else.

The game was fol­lowed by a bar­be­cue and pre­sen­ta­tion hosted by Cal­tex Proser­pine at the Reef Gate­way Ho­tel where the win­ners col­lected their prizes.

The Kerchers won on 61 strokes on a count back from Scotty and Linda Wardroper. Ge­off Har­ri­son and Joanne Moynihan were third on 61.25 and Brad Ham­mond and Ross Richards rounded out the top four on 63.25

Long­est Drives came from Kym Hill in (A grade), Dar­ren Wil­liams (B grade), Wilf Her­weg (C grade) and Jac­qui Wall (ladies).

Near­est-the-pins on hole 2 were Mick Cooper and Ernie Hol­stein, Ge­off Har­ri­son and Joanne Moynihan on 9 and 16 and Wilf Her­weg and Ti­ina Rand­mae on 13.

Next Sun­day will be the Septem­ber monthly medal with tee off at 7.30am and the fol­low­ing Sun­day, Septem­ber 29, will be the first round of the club cham­pi­onships.
