Prison sentence for local man
A CANNONVALE man has been sentenced to 15 months imprisonment, with a two year suspended sentence after serving five months.
Zachary John Hall pleaded guilty in Proserpine Magistrate’s Court on Monday to contravening the direction or requirement of police, two counts of contravening a probation order, breach of bail undertaking and possession of dangerous drugs.
On June 30 at 9.50pm, Whitsunday Police issued Hall with a request for identification notice but Hall failed to attend the station within seven days.
On July 15, Hall was issued a notice to appear in court on July 29, but failed to attend and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
On July 30, police executed a search warrant for drugs at a Martin’s Lane residence in Cannonvale at 9.01am.
Hall was found asleep in a bedroom, with a small glass bowl containing 0.4g of cannabis and 5.2g of cannabis in a clip seal bag on the bedside table.
Magistrate Haydn Stjernqvist said Hall had continued to commit other offences while on probation.
“You have been given ample opportunity over the past two years to seek out counselling and community service support and you have not done that,” he said.
One of the charges relating to contravening a probation order was revoked and the other expired which lead to Hall being resentenced on the original charges during proceedings.
For failing to appear in accordance with undertaking, Hall received a three month cumulative sentence as part of a 12 month sentence.
The charge relating to contravening the direction or requirement of police was convicted with no further punishment.
Hall will face a further hearing regarding charges of common assault, contravention of release conditions and wilful damage in court at a later date.
