Whitsunday Times - - WHITSUNDAY BUSINESS -

FOUR Whitsunday businesses were represented at the World Youth and Student Travel Conference. Representatives from Whitsunday Sailing Adventures, Base Backpackers, Nomads and Koala Island Resort travelled to Sydney for the event. The annual event is held in a different location each year and will be in Dublin in 2014.

More than 1000 delegates from across the world attend the conference which is now in its 22nd year.

Gabby Shaw from Whitsun- day Sailing Adventures said the conference had a solid reputation for bringing together the biggest names in global youth travel.

“Young travellers represent one of the fastest growing segments of the travel industry ac- counting for 20 per cent of all international arrivals, generating an estimated 160 million visitors and a global market worth US$183 billion a year,” she said.

“Backpackers and gap year students stay longer and spend more than average tourists.
