Race fever building ahead of Bowen Cup

Whitsunday Times - - CHILL -

RACING fans from across the Whitsundays are gearing up for this year’s Bowen Cup at Ben Bolt Park on Saturday, October 5.

Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy a great day of top class racing, fashion, fun and country hospitality at the annual event.

The Bowen Cup is held on the first Saturday in October at Ben Bolt Park at the top of the Whitsundays, and this year’s event is shaping up as one of the biggest to date. It is a great opportunity to dress up in your finest and have a flutter on the horses, with all the traditional fun of a country race meet.

The action will be spread across five races, culminating with the last race, the Bowen Cup, with a sizeable pool of prize money up for grabs. Those who fancy themselves a bit of a punter will be to place their bets with bookmakers and TAB facilities spread around the grounds.

There will also be several on-site licensed bars to ensure the crowd is well refreshed on the day.

The always-popular fashions on the field competition will be another highlight as men and women from around the region look to be the best dressed.

Prizes for the best dressed punters will be announced after the third race at about 3pm.

CUP WINNERS: Jockey Emma Ljung rode Faster Buster to victory at last year’s Bowen Cup. Here they posed with John Manzelman (trainer), Jason Cullen (strapper) and sponsors from Telstra Whitsunday Ryan Langford and Sue Stridiron.
