Low scores for monthly medal
A FIELD of 24 Whitsunday golfers teed off around 7.30am for the September monthly medal competition last Sunday.
Although the drive in to Proserpine may have been a little foggy, it was all clear on the course for players.
B and C graders scored a little better than the A graders, and as always, competition and laughter were the main elements during the day.
A grade was won by Ross Richards on nett 74 ahead of runnerup Brendon Meharry on 75 while Kym Hill had the best gross score.
Mal Carter won B grade on 66 while Tiina Randmae was second on 70, on a count back from Anna Winterbourn.
Ernie Holstein had the best gross score.
C grade was won by Reg Kercher on 66, one ahead of Wilf Herweg on 67 and Tess Aitken had the best gross score.
Longest drives came from Ross Richards (A grade), Mick Cooper (B grade), Reg Kercher (C grade) and Tiina Randmae (ladies).
Nearest-the-pins in A and B grade were Mal Carter on hole 2, Kym Hill on 9, Ross Richards on 13 and Kym Hill on 16.
The only nearest-the pin in C grade came from Wilf Herweg’s second shot on 13.
For the ladies Tiina Randmae was nearest-the-pin on hole 9 and Beryl Miller was closest on 13 and 16.
The Guzzler’s Cup was won by A grade, Ross Richards who will enjoy a free drink paid for by his rivals in A grade until the next monthly medal.
Next Sunday will be the first of two rounds for the club championship 2013. Tee off is at 7.30am
VETERANS GOLF STABLEFORD competitions were held over nine and 18 holes at veterans golf this week.
Caroline Awdry won the 18 hole comp with a fine score of 39, ahead of Mandy Patterson on 37, Barry Mortimer on 33, Geoff Rees on 32 and Mick Burrows and Beryl Nosworthy 30.
Nearest-the-pins were Mick Burrows and Mandy Patterson.
In the nine holes Awdry was the winner again, finishing on 22 ahead of Bar- ry Mortimer on 19, Mandy Patterson on 18, Trevor Paroz on 17 and Nick Apruzzese and Geoff Rees on 15.
Nearest-the-pins were Nick Apruzzese, who hit a great shot to hole in from distance on 16, and Caroline Awdry was the closest of the ladies.
Next week is a normal competition and the week after, October 3, is a trip to Pioneer Valley.
