Low scores for monthly medal

A FIELD of 24 Whit­sun­day golfers teed off around 7.30am for the Septem­ber monthly medal com­pe­ti­tion last Sun­day.

Al­though the drive in to Proser­pine may have been a lit­tle foggy, it was all clear on the course for play­ers.

B and C graders scored a lit­tle bet­ter than the A graders, and as al­ways, com­pe­ti­tion and laugh­ter were the main ele­ments dur­ing the day.

A grade was won by Ross Richards on nett 74 ahead of run­nerup Bren­don Me­harry on 75 while Kym Hill had the best gross score.

Mal Carter won B grade on 66 while Ti­ina Rand­mae was sec­ond on 70, on a count back from Anna Win­ter­bourn.

Ernie Hol­stein had the best gross score.

C grade was won by Reg Kercher on 66, one ahead of Wilf Her­weg on 67 and Tess Aitken had the best gross score.

Long­est drives came from Ross Richards (A grade), Mick Cooper (B grade), Reg Kercher (C grade) and Ti­ina Rand­mae (ladies).

Near­est-the-pins in A and B grade were Mal Carter on hole 2, Kym Hill on 9, Ross Richards on 13 and Kym Hill on 16.

The only near­est-the pin in C grade came from Wilf Her­weg’s sec­ond shot on 13.

For the ladies Ti­ina Rand­mae was near­est-the-pin on hole 9 and Beryl Miller was clos­est on 13 and 16.

The Guz­zler’s Cup was won by A grade, Ross Richards who will en­joy a free drink paid for by his ri­vals in A grade un­til the next monthly medal.

Next Sun­day will be the first of two rounds for the club cham­pi­onship 2013. Tee off is at 7.30am

VET­ER­ANS GOLF STA­BLE­FORD com­pe­ti­tions were held over nine and 18 holes at vet­er­ans golf this week.

Caro­line Awdry won the 18 hole comp with a fine score of 39, ahead of Mandy Pat­ter­son on 37, Barry Mortimer on 33, Ge­off Rees on 32 and Mick Bur­rows and Beryl Nos­wor­thy 30.

Near­est-the-pins were Mick Bur­rows and Mandy Pat­ter­son.

In the nine holes Awdry was the win­ner again, fin­ish­ing on 22 ahead of Bar- ry Mortimer on 19, Mandy Pat­ter­son on 18, Trevor Paroz on 17 and Nick Apruzzese and Ge­off Rees on 15.

Near­est-the-pins were Nick Apruzzese, who hit a great shot to hole in from dis­tance on 16, and Caro­line Awdry was the clos­est of the ladies.

Next week is a nor­mal com­pe­ti­tion and the week af­ter, Oc­to­ber 3, is a trip to Pi­o­neer Val­ley.
