Bring a friend day a hit with bowlers

AIR­LIE BOWLS

LAST Tues­day was the an­nual bring a friend day for the ladies and those in­vited to give bowls a try were Rose Al­lan, Tolma Camm, Helen Scott and Colleen Bow­man.

The win­ners for the af­ter­noon were Helen Scott, Henny Tat­tam and Jill Spencer who de­feated Tolma Camm, Di Dob­bins and Marie Welsh/Margo Stan­ley 15-4 while on the other green Rose Al­lan, Doreen White­house and Jo Howes de­feated Colleen Bow­man, Mar­garet Heeney and Lane Telford 14-7.

Num­bers were down for the men bowlers this week as sev­eral vis­i­tors have headed home.

This week’s win­ners were David Stock and Jeff Rayner who de­feated Steve Tat­tam and Ron Spence 22-18 and on the next rink John For­nasiero and Eric Bot­tle de­feated Col Howes and Wally Gray 19-12.

On the last green Ted Evans and Jeff New­man de­feated Nik Fern­bach and Jim Cairns 20-16

Busi­ness house bowls is to start the Wed­nes­day af­ter the school hol­i­days, so teams should now be get­ting ready to reg­is­ter be­fore all spots are taken up.

Bare­foot bowls on Fri­day night were very busy with al­most all rinks oc­cu­pied and any­one in­ter­ested should phone the club to book a spot.

On Sun­day there was a good roll up for bowls in the hot weather.

The win­ners were David Stock and Ron Spence who de­feated Nick Fern­bach and Ryan West 17-7.

On rink four Col Howes, Mau­reen Barnard and Richard White­house de­feated Gor­don Cur­rie, Eric Bot­tle and Betty Stock 16-8 and on the last rink Margo Stan­ley, Doreen White­house and Jill Spencer de­feated Jo Howes, Noela White­head and Jill Spencer 14-10.

Com­ing up is the ladies fours car­ni­val on Oc­to­ber 1 and teams should be up on the board now.

Any­one who wants to be in a team should put their name down and a team will be nom­i­nated for them.

The an­nual gen­eral meet­ing is on Sun­day, Septem­ber 29 at 10.30am and all mem­bers are asked to at­tend to elect new of­fice bear­ers.

Night bowls are back again on a Thurs­day night at 6.30pm and will start on Oc­to­ber 31.

They will need num­bers so those in­ter­ested need to put their names down on the sheet or phone Sandy at the club on 4946 7656 to reg­is­ter their in­ter­est.
