Bring a friend day a hit with bowlers
LAST Tuesday was the annual bring a friend day for the ladies and those invited to give bowls a try were Rose Allan, Tolma Camm, Helen Scott and Colleen Bowman.
The winners for the afternoon were Helen Scott, Henny Tattam and Jill Spencer who defeated Tolma Camm, Di Dobbins and Marie Welsh/Margo Stanley 15-4 while on the other green Rose Allan, Doreen Whitehouse and Jo Howes defeated Colleen Bowman, Margaret Heeney and Lane Telford 14-7.
Numbers were down for the men bowlers this week as several visitors have headed home.
This week’s winners were David Stock and Jeff Rayner who defeated Steve Tattam and Ron Spence 22-18 and on the next rink John Fornasiero and Eric Bottle defeated Col Howes and Wally Gray 19-12.
On the last green Ted Evans and Jeff Newman defeated Nik Fernbach and Jim Cairns 20-16
Business house bowls is to start the Wednesday after the school holidays, so teams should now be getting ready to register before all spots are taken up.
Barefoot bowls on Friday night were very busy with almost all rinks occupied and anyone interested should phone the club to book a spot.
On Sunday there was a good roll up for bowls in the hot weather.
The winners were David Stock and Ron Spence who defeated Nick Fernbach and Ryan West 17-7.
On rink four Col Howes, Maureen Barnard and Richard Whitehouse defeated Gordon Currie, Eric Bottle and Betty Stock 16-8 and on the last rink Margo Stanley, Doreen Whitehouse and Jill Spencer defeated Jo Howes, Noela Whitehead and Jill Spencer 14-10.
Coming up is the ladies fours carnival on October 1 and teams should be up on the board now.
Anyone who wants to be in a team should put their name down and a team will be nominated for them.
The annual general meeting is on Sunday, September 29 at 10.30am and all members are asked to attend to elect new office bearers.
Night bowls are back again on a Thursday night at 6.30pm and will start on October 31.
They will need numbers so those interested need to put their names down on the sheet or phone Sandy at the club on 4946 7656 to register their interest.
