Cricket season to get underway
WITH the football season drawing to a close it’s time to oil the bat, dust off the gear and get ready to face the first delivery of the 2013/14 Proserpine cricket season.
The first game of the year will be on Saturday October, 12 starting at 12.30pm at the Kelsey Creek Sports Complex.
The club are hoping for at least four teams in the competition this year to ensure that all teams play each week.
Club representative Dale Mengel encouraged new players to come along and have a bit of fun while meeting new people.
“If you are looking for something social to do on a Saturday while getting a bit of exercise, please turn up on October 12 and show your support for the local cricket club,” he said.
“There are no age or skill level requirements and teams are always looking for new players, regardless of whether you are a seasoned cricketer or have never played a game in your life.”
They play 40-over games and fixtures are usually finished by 5.30pm.
Unlike many sporting clubs, there is no annual fee –with players only paying $10 for each game that they play to cover ball fees and to help with the club’s running costs.
All equipment is provided if required and there are drinks, food and refreshments available at the club house throughout the day.
Anyone after further information should contact club president Craig Brown on 4945 1983 or Dale Mengel on 0410 895 191.
